If you were not aware that you can play games within the YouTube app, you still have two days to give it a try. This is because YouTube’s Playables feature, which allows for simple game playing within the app, will be discontinued on March 28th.
Last year, YouTube began experimenting with Playables to confirm the speculation of its gaming capabilities. This feature, which is exclusively accessible to premium members on Android, iOS, and desktop, enables users to play games within the YouTube app without the need for downloading or additional fees.
You can access the Playables shelf by scrolling through the Home feed or navigating to the Explore menu. Any progress made on the titles you play will be saved to your YouTube history and will also sync with other supported platforms.
YouTube regularly conducts tests on experimental features to determine their potential, such as a lock screen to avoid accidental taps or increasing video playback speed. While certain experimental features are integrated into the stable version, others may never be implemented.
The popular streaming service appears to be trying out Playables, but according to Android Authority, the end date for the test feature was already announced last year. It is uncertain whether Playables will be permanently removed or if they will make a comeback in the future.
Despite previously discontinuing its cloud gaming service Stadia after four years, Google’s subsidiary YouTube has now entered the gaming sector once again. The platform’s rival streaming service, Netflix, has also recently expanded into gaming by incorporating mobile games into its streaming app.
The latest reports reveal that YouTube has introduced a new video player layout for its TV application, enhancing the ability to view comments while playing videos. Additionally, the popular streaming platform now mandates content creators to include tags for computer-generated material that appears realistic.
