Record DDR5 12,917 MT/s Achieved by Overclocker on GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS Tachyon DUO X ICE with Ambient Cooling

Renowned overclocker Saltycroissant has recently achieved a remarkable feat in the world of memory overclocking, setting a new record with his DDR5 memory. While this score might not claim the top global position, accomplishing it using ambient cooling is an impressive accomplishment.

Saltycroissant Achieves 12, 917 MT/s DDR5 Memory Speed on Z890 AORUS Tachyon Duo X ICE Using Ambient Cooling

Saltycroissant utilized the newer Z890 AORUS Tachyon Duo X ICE, recently launched by GIGABYTE, diverging from the original Z890 AORUS Tachyon that previously dominated the overclocking scene. Although world record-breaking feats in DDR5 memory are not uncommon, Saltycroissant’s achievement stands out for its cooling method, not merely as another entry into the record books.

What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is that Saltycroissant managed to reach a staggering 12, 917 MT/s without relying on liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. For context, the current fastest DDR5 memory speed recorded is an astounding 13, 530 MT/s, accomplished by the German overclocker “sergmann” on the GIGABYTE Z890 AORUS Tachyon ICE model. Utilizing the advanced capabilities of the Tachyon Duo X ICE, which is optimized specifically for CQDIMM memory modules, Saltycroissant demonstrated impressive performance under typical ambient conditions.

The CPU-Z software displays memory specifications showing DDR5 type, 24GB size, and a DRAM frequency of 6458.7 MHz.

The innovation of CQDIMM memory, featuring a clock driver embedded in the RAM module, significantly enhances signal integrity. This technology facilitates achieving higher memory speeds. The Z890 AORUS Tachyon Duo X ICE showcases notable advancements over its predecessor, boasting an 8-layer PCB for improved overclocking potential. Although GIGABYTE claims the new motherboard supports speeds up to 10, 400 MT/s, Saltycroissant unlocked an impressive 6458.7 MHz to attain his record-breaking 12, 917 MT/s performance using standard air cooling.

“Well, it turns out even on ambient this new Z890 Tachyon DUO X ICE can do some funny… looking forward to trying it cold.” – Saltycroissant (FB)

The image shows a memory frequency score of '6703.9 MHz' achieved by 'saltycroissant' using DDR5 SDRAM Vengeance, alongside a CPU-Z screenshot displaying technical details and a custom cooling setup on a computer motherboard.

Interestingly, while other records typically rely on LN2 cooling methods, Saltycroissant’s impressive setup preserved competitive timings, showcasing his skill in optimizing memory performance without extreme cooling techniques. Later attempts with LN2 yielded a phenomenal 13, 407.8 MT/s on the same motherboard, placing him in the third spot on the HWBot leaderboards.
