Cecilia Hailey, a former instructor at Donda Academy, recently shared insights with The US Sun regarding her experience at the controversial Christian private school established by Kanye West in 2022. Hailey filed a lawsuit against West last year, alleging wrongful termination.
During a candid interview, Hailey likened the environment of the school to a “zoo.”She stated that dissent against Kanye West’s choices was largely disregarded.
According to her April 2023 lawsuit, both Cecilia Hailey and her daughter Chekarey Byers were employed as teachers at Donda Academy. They began their tenure in January but were let go just two months later, in March. The lawsuit claims that their termination followed their inquiries into “unlawful and unsafe practices”within the institution.
The court documents stated:
“Throughout their employment, no corrective measures were implemented in response to plaintiffs’ complaints regarding sanitation, health, safety, or educational standards required by local and state law.”
In her recent interview with The US Sun, Hailey highlighted numerous incidents of bullying at the school, noting that no disciplinary measures were enacted against the students responsible. She remarked:
“Students were being physical with one another; older kids would engage in fights with younger ones.”
Hailey pointed out that faculty members were discouraged from taking action, even when witnessing a fourth-grade student hitting a first grader. She recounted instances of children “hiding under tables in fear.”
Additionally, she alleged that Kanye West had intentions for students to receive military training and learn firearm usage.
Additional Concerns from the Lawsuit Against Kanye West’s Donda Academy
Reflecting on Kanye West’s proposal regarding firearms training for children, Cecilia Hailey expressed her opposition. She recounted her response when questioned about this initiative:
“I thought, ‘Are you serious? I cannot allow my third graders to learn to shoot rifles, no way. This discussion came up early in my employment, where they wanted to gauge my thoughts about students marching and gun classes.’
She deemed classes focused on firearms highly inappropriate and described her experience at Donda Academy as giving her “Hitler vibes,”labeling Kanye as “delusional.”
Others, including Hailey’s former colleagues, have also joined the lawsuit against Kanye. One ex-teacher revealed knowledge of a person allegedly hired to instruct students on tactical and military skills.
Cecilia Hailey further discussed the food situation at the school, noting that while students initially received nutritious meals, Kanye West abruptly mandated that they only be served sushi. Consequently, many teachers felt compelled to sneak in food to ensure the children weren’t left hungry.
Several parents under NDAs have remained silent about their children participating in marching or firearms training. Currently, Kanye West has not publicly addressed these serious allegations. As reported by NBC News, the trial related to this lawsuit is scheduled for April 9, 2025, at a Los Angeles courthouse, where Hailey and Byers have requested a jury trial.
