Peter DeSouza-Feighoney Expresses Shock Over Latest TCU Installment in Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmares

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney Expresses Shock Over Latest TCU Installment in Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmares

In a fresh twist on a beloved childhood classic, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare reimagines the iconic narrative through a darker lens, led by the talented Peter DeSouza-Feighoney as Michael Darling. Directed by Scott Chambers, this film presents Michael as the younger, often innocent member of the Darling family, whose character grapples with the pandemonium surrounding him in the film’s haunting take on Neverland.

This project marks a notable entry for DeSouza-Feighoney into the “Twisted Childhood Universe”, a franchise he previously explored while playing young Winnie-the-Pooh in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. His portrayal of Michael Darling seems to cement his place within this unique cinematic landscape, as he prepares to reprise this character in the upcoming film Pinocchio: Unstrung.

As Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare hits theaters this week, ScreenRant engaged DeSouza-Feighoney in an insightful discussion about his initial response to the film’s shocking script, the essence of his character, his collaboration with director Scott Chambers, and what lies ahead for Michael Darling in the evolving Twisted Childhood Universe.

DeSouza-Feighoney’s Initial Shock at the Script

“It was obviously a yes to me…”

ScreenRant: As you’re relatively early in your acting career, how did you feel when you first received the script for Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare with its sadistic twist?

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney: When I first got the role of young Winnie-the-Pooh in Blood and Honey 2, I was surprised by the direction they took. So, learning they were making a twisted Peter Pan was equally shocking yet thrilling for me as a horror fan. My instinct was to accept the role immediately, and I couldn’t wait to begin filming.

What steps did you take to ensure that your portrayal of Michael Darling remained true to the character audiences fondly remember?

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney: I revisited the traditional films of Peter Pan, noting how even without the horror elements, it has an inherently unsettling vibe, from Peter Pan enticing children to leave their homes. Director Scott Chambers encouraged me to embrace my natural quietness, allowing me to draw from my own personality while still paying homage to previous portrayals of Michael Darling.

You mentioned Scott, and I understand you have a strong creative rapport. Can you elaborate on that dynamic?

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney: Scott is truly incredible. Our journey began on Winnie-the-Pooh, and he was already envisioning this Peter Pan project at that point. His innovative ideas and knack for crafting a compelling narrative are evident, and being an actor himself, he really knows how to guide performances effectively. Working with him was an extraordinary experience.

As you move forward with your career, what role do you see for Michael Darling in the larger TCU landscape?

In Poohniverse, I can’t reveal too many details, but given Michael’s journey in Peter Pan, his character undergoes noticeable development. Initially portrayed as quiet and shy, by the end we see him gaining confidence. I anticipate Michael will be stronger and more assertive in both Pinocchio and in the larger Poohniverse.

Have you had the opportunity to glance at the script for future projects in the TCU? How does the concept of an interconnected storyline excite you?

Peter DeSouza-Feighoney: While I haven’t seen the script yet, just hearing about it during filming was enough to spark my excitement. The prospect of numerous villains and heroes from various stories converging into one film is exhilarating. It promises to be a chaotic ride!
