PC gamers report performance issues with Dragon’s Dogma 2; Capcom says fixes are coming
Recently, we evaluated the pre-release PC version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Capcom’s action RPG.
As of March 21, the $69.99 game has been released on Steam and is receiving criticism for its performance issues. The game’s Steam page, which can be found at this link, currently displays a “Mostly Negative”rating based on over 14,000 player reviews.
Numerous negative reviews have been submitted by players dissatisfied with the microtransactions for in-game content. According to a statement from developer and publisher Capcom on Steam, it is possible to obtain additional in-game content simply by playing the game.
Despite the troubling reports of frame rate and performance issues with the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma 2, the most concerning aspect is the statement released by Capcom addressing these issues.
A large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.
Capcom has acknowledged reports of other bugs and game crashes for certain players, and stated that the team will focus on addressing these issues in upcoming patches, starting with those deemed to be the highest priority.
In the end, Capcom revealed its intention to incorporate a feature that will allow PC players who have already begun playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 to reset the game. Currently, there is no set date for the release of these patches and updates.
Naturally, we have witnessed numerous instances of multiplatform games being ported to PC and being plagued by performance issues and glitches after their release, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, The Last of Us Part I, and others. This pattern appears to persist with the upcoming release of Dragon’s Dogma 2.
