At The Game Awards 2024, when Game of Thrones Kingsroad was unveiled, my expectations were not met. As an avid admirer of George R.R. Martin’s epic series, I have longed for a top-tier, triple-A adaptation for more than a decade. However, this latest offering, primarily designed for mobile platforms, leaves much to be desired.
Promising Developments in Gameplay
Despite my reservations, the game’s development is moving forward. Recently, Netmarble released a new gameplay teaser that instills some optimism compared to the prior trailer. The inspiration from popular action/adventure games, notably the most recent Assassin’s Creed installments, is evident. In a captivating moment, Lady Olenna appears to warn the protagonist—a noble unexpectedly thrust into the role of heir to a minor house—that he is ‘gravely underestimating the game played by the major houses.’
Closed Beta Test Announcement
In conjunction with the gameplay video, Netmarble has revealed plans for a Closed Beta Test for Game of Thrones Kingsroad. This testing phase will commence on January 16 and conclude on January 22. Participants from the United States, Canada, and selected European regions—including Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, and several others—are invited to join the adventure.
