Microsoft Unveils Windows 365 for Agents at Ignite 2025
Since its introduction in 2021, Windows 365 has established itself as a leading cloud PC solution tailored for enterprise and business sectors. Over the years, this innovative platform has undergone significant enhancements, including new deployment options, seamless integrations with Microsoft 365 and Azure, improved performance metrics, and refined management functionalities.
Introducing Windows 365 for Agents
During the Ignite 2025 event, Microsoft announced a groundbreaking addition to its cloud PC offerings: Windows 365 for Agents. This specialized solution is designed to empower AI agents with the capability to interact with both Windows and Linux applications, facilitating the completion of complex user tasks more efficiently. For instance, an AI agent needing access to a legacy line-of-business application restricted to Windows can effortlessly initiate a Windows 365 for Agents session. Once launched, it can engage with the application to fulfill necessary tasks.
Key Insights from Microsoft
The Windows team emphasized the transformative nature of Windows 365 for Agents, stating:
“Windows 365 for Agents will extend agentic capabilities to the Microsoft Cloud. Agent makers will have a trusted platform with modular UI controls, enterprise-grade security, and flexibility to run on Windows or Linux. That means they will be able to build and deploy agents that open apps, process data, and automate tasks on a Cloud PC.”
Empowering Developers with APIs
With the launch of Windows 365 for Agents, developers gain access to a robust set of APIs, allowing them to create and deploy agents seamlessly. These agents can operate in the cloud and leverage agent connectors along with the newly introduced Windows on-device registry. This dual capability means that agents can execute tasks in both local and cloud environments, enabling developers to select the execution method that best suits their specific needs.
Pioneering AI Applications
Among the pioneering solutions utilizing Windows 365 for Agents is Microsoft 365 Copilot’s Researcher Agent with Computer Use, which harnesses the power of Windows 365 Cloud PCs in a Linux environment. This innovative tool enables users to automate their website navigation and perform various online actions efficiently. In addition, Manus AI, a prominent startup specializing in agentic AI, is employing non-domain-joined Windows 365 Cloud PCs to streamline tasks such as creating and editing PowerPoint presentations.
Current Participation and Public Preview
Microsoft has also revealed that several AI startups, including Fellou, Genspark, Simular, and TinyFish, are currently testing Windows 365 for Agents. This promising solution is now available for public preview, allowing organizations and developers to explore its capabilities firsthand.
