The smartphone chipset sector is currently led by industry giants MediaTek and Qualcomm. In a display of remarkable technological advancement, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 and Dimensity 9400+ have significantly boosted the company’s financial performance. According to the latest figures from the second quarter of 2025, MediaTek achieved an impressive $3 billion in revenue from its flagship chipset offerings. Projections indicate a striking 40% increase year-over-year, particularly with the anticipated launch of the Dimensity 9500 on the horizon.
Mobile revenue constituted 52% of MediaTek’s total revenue for Q2 2025, with gross margins approaching 50%
In Q2 2025, MediaTek reported a quarterly revenue of NT$150.369 billion (approximately $5.06 billion), reflecting an 18.1% annual increase. However, a slight decline of 1.9% was observed when compared to Q1 2025, primarily attributed to unfavorable foreign exchange rates. MediaTek has indicated plans to unveil the Dimensity 9500 in the upcoming third quarter, highlighting an increase in customer engagement and a broader model adoption compared to its predecessor chipsets, the Dimensity 9400 and Dimensity 9400+.
Looking ahead, MediaTek is committed to innovation, planning a shift to TSMC’s advanced 2nm process in the next year. During the earnings call for Q2 2025, the company announced its intent to begin tape-out for its next-generation System-on-Chip (SoC), despite earlier plans for a fourth quarter 2025 start. The forthcoming Dimensity 9500, scheduled for mass production later this year, will utilize TSMC’s latest third-generation 3nm ‘N3P’ technology, aligning with trends set by Qualcomm and Apple, both of which are adopting similar architectural designs for their flagship processors.
Regarding profitability, MediaTek achieved gross margins of 49.1% in Q2 2025, with an operating income of 19.9%, translating to about $1.02 billion.
