In the latest adventure of Mario & Luigi: Brothership, the wicked Zokket aims for global domination with his devastating minion, Glohm, and only the heroic duo can thwart his plans. But before facing Zokket, players must first engage in some thrilling optional boss battles—it’s a classic RPG rite of passage!
Among these challenges is the formidable Glohm Sharpcask, marking the second rematch against bosses from earlier in the game. Defeating this mechanical foe not only grants you valuable new gear but also contributes to maintaining peace in Concordia, a goal that surely outweighs the thrill of battle.
Initiating the Sidequest
To embark on your rematch with Glohm Sharpcask, you’ll need to kick off the related sidequest. Depending on how far you’ve progressed in the main storyline, Dewey may prompt you to confront Glohm Sharpcask right away. To access this side quest, ensure you have completed Wayaway Island and vanquished Glohm Gobblick first.
Worry not if you’ve completed Wayaway Island a while back—Dewey’s sidequests have no expiration date. However, defeating Glohm Sharpcask sooner rather than later will allow you to claim a significant reward: a powerful hammer upgrade for late-game scenarios.

Getting to Glohm Sharpcask
Your confrontation with Glohm Sharpcask occurs once more in the depths of the Great Lighthouse, specifically in the basement location in the Color-Full Sea. Sail back to the area while engaging in any additional sidequests that may catch your interest—keep in mind that this journey can be time-consuming even if you choose to sail swiftly.
Upon arriving on the island of the Great Lighthouse, find the Green Pipe close to the merchant to welcome yourself into Sub-Level 2. From there, proceed north towards the Save Block and the entrance to the boss arena.
Strategizing for Battle
It is advisable to reach at least level 39 before challenging Glohm Sharpcask, and the reasoning is evident. Enhanced by Glohm’s powers, Sharpcask’s attacks are swifter and significantly more potent than during your initial encounter.
Should you decide to tackle this rematch as soon as Dewey offers the opportunity, remember to hit that Save Block before entering the boss’s den!
As always, ensure you have an adequate stockpile of recovery items—especially Syrups and Nuts—before starting the boss fight. Defensive play can be an effective approach to gradually deplete Glohm Sharpcask’s health.
Utilizing Battle Plugs
In contrast to your previous battle with Glohm Gobblick, this fight provides access to two useful Battle Plugs!
Utilize the Auto Ampberry obtained from Wayaway Island as a defensive tool to counteract the Glohm status effect, which would otherwise hinder your Bros. Attacks and Luigi Logic. Quickly activating this plug is imperative, and it efficiently does not consume a turn.
Pair the Auto Ampberry with Boomerang Items to conserve your Ampberry supply, which cannot be purchased at shops. If you progress further into the game, you’ll also obtain the Glohm Guard plug, which completely nullifies Glohm effects but has a recharge time of 20 turns.
For offensive strategies, the Anti-Glohm Specialist plug earned by defeating Glohm Gobblick will transform every regular attack into a critical hit. The Anti-Spike Specialist plug is also valuable against Glohm Sharpcask, given the multitude of sharp spikes involved.
Confronting Glohm Sharpcask
Your rematch with Glohm Sharpcask follows a familiar strategy—continue to inflict damage until he withdraws into his shell, then use Luigi Logic to stun him and unleash a barrage of critical damage.
Notably, Glohm Sharpcask benefits from Glohm’s power, erecting a formidable spiked barrier that absorbs a single attack’s damage. Deliver multiple strikes to dismantle this shield and resume inflicting harm on the boss.
Bros. Attacks like Mario’s Bomb Derby excel in overcoming Glohm Sharpcask’s shield. These attacks hit multiple times and deal damage to both the shield and the boss simultaneously.
In my view, Luigi’s Green Shell is the ultimate Bros. Attack for breaking through Glohm Sharpcask’s shield. This low-cost (5 BP) attack delivers six hits, ensuring that it effectively shatters the shield while conserving your BP for when Luigi Logic has been activated.
Activating Luigi Logic
After dealing sufficient damage, Glohm Sharpcask will retreat into his shell to recover approximately 200 HP per turn while also enhancing his defense.
Fortunately, this allows you to activate Luigi Logic, assuming both brothers are active and free from Glohm status conditions. On Luigi’s turn, strike the green block to initiate the minigame.
This minigame involves stacking crates, but beware of bombs that may fall from above! If a bomb destroys the crates atop Glohm Sharpcask, the challenge ends prematurely.
Successfully stacking six crates will crack his shell, granting you the chance to unleash your most potent Bros. Attacks for significant damage. This moment is ideal for using the Bros. Boost plug for even greater impact, especially if you can activate Auto EXCELLENT.
Even if the minigame fails due to a bomb explosion, you’ll still halt Glohm Sharpcask’s regeneration, making it worthwhile to activate Luigi Logic regardless of the outcome.
Typically, you will need to execute the stunning phase twice, depending on your character levels and equipment. If Glohm Sharpcask’s health dips dangerously low yet remains standing, he becomes enraged, transforming into a red form and increasing his damage output until defeated.
Upon finally dismantling Glohm Sharpcask into spare components, you’ll receive the coveted Platinum Medallion worth an impressive 5,000 Coins! Return to Shipshape Island to collect your hammer upgrade from Dewey. With two bonus bosses defeated, you’re one step closer to triumph!
