The Undercroft serves as a clandestine location within Hogwarts Legacy, exclusively uncovered to players during the quest titled In the Shadow of the Undercroft. This hidden gem has long been associated with the Gaunt family and has transformed into a refuge for Ominis Gaunt and the Sallow siblings, Sebastian and Anne.
Once a playground for Gobstones, this secret area now provides players with an excellent opportunity to enhance their spellcasting skills, especially when practicing Wingardium Leviosa among the various barrels strewn throughout the room. Additionally, an alternative entrance to the Undercroft in Hogwarts Legacy exists, located outside the castle’s main grounds.
Locating the Undercroft in Hogwarts Legacy
Accessing the Undercroft will only be possible after players embark on the In the Shadow of the Undercroft quest, the 18th quest in the game’s progression, subsequent to the Room of Requirement mission.
Utilize the Compass Path to Objective feature to guide you efficiently by pressing Up on the D-Pad or V. Your Field Guide will illuminate a direct path to your goal.
Your journey begins with an objective marker directing you to meet Sebastian in the Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower, situated near the impressive skeleton of a large horned creature.
To proceed, follow the direction indicated by the skeleton’s horn, veering left beside a staircase until you arrive at the dead end. Here, you will come across a magical cabinet that serves as the portal to the Undercroft.
For optimal direction, consider the position of the nearest Floo Flame locations before seeking the skeleton.
Reaching the Undercroft Using Floo Flame
Unlike other concealed spaces in Hogwarts, such as the Map Chamber or the Room of Requirement, the Undercroft lacks a dedicated Floo Flame for direct travel.
Your best bet is to use the Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower located in the Astronomy Wing. From this point, follow these steps:
- Descend the staircase, staying close to the right side of the banister.
- Reach the large skeleton of the horned creature.
- Continue down this level towards the direction the horn points.
- Proceed to the dead end where the secret magical cabinet awaits.
If you are situated at the Transfiguration Courtyard Floo Flame, simply enter the double doors leading to the tower, ascend the stairs, make a left turn, and you will encounter the skeleton directing you toward the Undercroft.
Accessing the Undercroft from Isadora Morganach’s Residence
Later in your journey, during the quest In the Shadow of the Estate, players will accompany Sebastian to explore the dilapidated remains of Isadora’s home.
Upon entering, players should crouch under an opening in the wall and proceed down a series of stairs leading to the cellar.
Inside the cellar, players will need to dismantle a wall of shelves using standard attacks. Behind this barrier lies a mirror that functions as a secret entrance to the Undercroft, ultimately leading back into Hogwarts.
Exercise caution for the presence of Devil’s Snare in Isadora’s residence. To eliminate it, cast Lumos.
Note that this entrance provides a one-way passage, making it inaccessible for quick travel back to Feldcroft from Hogwarts.
