“Lay down the coke my man” – Fans react as Conor McGregor gets perturbed by namesake Connor Matthews fighting on UFC Atlantic City prelims

Fans have recently shared their opinions on Conor McGregor’s disappointment with his namesake Connor Matthews competing in the preliminary bout at UFC Atlantic City.

The Fight Night event occurred on March 30 at Boardwalk Hall in New Jersey, with the main event showcasing UFC women’s flyweights Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot. In the co-main event, Vicente Luque is set to battle Joaquin Buckley in a welterweight bout.

In his first appearance in the octagon, Matthews faced off against Dennis Buzukja in a featherweight match and ultimately suffered a third round TKO loss.

The ex-UFC champion, who previously held titles in two weight divisions, recently used platform X to voice his dissatisfaction through a series of deleted tweets. He argued that there can only be one Conor in the UFC and stated:

”Connor Matthew’s you taking everything I worked for motherfucker”

”Who the f**k is this “Connor Matthew’s” guy? I am the only Conor in the @ufc”

After his most recent fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021, McGregor has not been able to compete due to a serious leg injury. In order to recover from this injury, he underwent surgery which has temporarily put a hold on his competitive fighting career.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of ‘The Notorious’, who is rumored to be facing off against Michael Chandler. The two were previously set to compete against each other in 2023 after serving as opposing coaches on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Season 31. Despite the high expectations, the match never materialized. However, there are now talks of the two finally meeting at International Fight Week this summer, although the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

What is Connor Matthews known for?

Conor Matthews (7-2) is a featherweight division fighter in the UFC, hailing from the United States and competing as a professional mixed martial artist.

Despite starting as a decorated US Air Force Combat Controller, Matthews’ journey to becoming a formidable UFC fighter showcases his determination, resilience, and passion. He first entered the amateur fighting scene in 2011 and went on to turn professional in 2019.

After losing to Francis Marshall by unanimous decision on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, Matthews was determined to prove himself and earn another opportunity. He did just that by submitting Andrew Cruz in the opening round of Combat Zone 79, securing his spot for a second chance to compete in the DWCS.

The American secured a UFC contract by defeating Jair Farias unanimously at Dana White’s Contender Series 2023: Week 10 in October.
