Currently participating in the Credit One Charleston Open, Wozniacki was granted a wild card entry. The Danish player had a strong beginning at the WTA 500 tournament, dominating American lucky loser Mccartney Kessler with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the Round of 64.

The victory of the ex-World No. 1 was her first on clay since her participation in the same tournament in 2019. During that event, Wozniacki fought until the final but ultimately lost to Madison Keys at the final hurdle.

In both the 2009 and 2011 editions of the tournament, Wozniacki also made it to the final. In 2009, she was defeated by Sabine Lisicki and in 2011, she emerged as the champion by defeating Elena Vesnina in the final to claim the Charleston crown.

Wozniacki is scheduled to play against Anhelina Kalinina in her upcoming match at Charleston. This will be a chance for the 33-year-old to seek retribution against the Ukrainian, who eliminated the Dane from the recently-concluded Miami Open.

The match between the pair at the Miami Open was the fourth-longest on the WTA Tour for the current season. Despite being unseeded, Wozniacki appeared to have the upper hand against 15th seed Kalinina. However, she was unable to capitalize on her match point chance and ultimately suffered a 7-5, 5-7, 4-6 defeat.
