According to Complex, Jevon, a veteran in the British rap music scene, passed away on March 30, 2024.
As of the writing of this article, the singer’s cause of death has not been disclosed. However, a statement from the publication confirms that the news has been confirmed by the singer’s family and close friends.
At the time of his passing, the singer was 29 years old and joins a tragic list of young rappers and musicians who have also passed away, including Takeoff, Mac Miller, and others. He leaves behind his previously mentioned family and close circle of friends.
The Life and Impact of Jevon
Jevon spent his early years in West London before moving to Coventry to live with his grandparents. He later returned to London and then back to Coventry in his early twenties, where he ultimately launched his music career.
The artist achieved his initial breakthrough when he collaborated on XL Recordings’s compilation album New Gen, which was launched in 2017. The record, produced by Jevon, Nyge, and Soul, consisted of 17 tracks and received positive reviews from publications like Pitchfork.
In 2021, the singer released his first studio album titled Fell In Love In Brasil, which showcased his Brazilian roots by incorporating elements of bossa nova and samba, among other musical influences.
In an exclusive interview with NME before the release of the album on September 3, 2018, Jevon elaborated on how his heritage influenced the album.
“Yeah, I started the album and I went to Brazil for like three months to do the album. That’s been a crazy experience as well, but kind of just balancing it because they are two completely different sounds. So it’s been a different experience in terms of contrasting both sounds at the same time.”
The singer then proceeded to say:
“My Grandad was Brazilian and he passed away about three years ago now. In his will he left me his record collection, and it was all Brazilian artists. I had what I thought was the EP, but when I heard the Brazilian sounds, I just started making some Brazilian stuff. I was like, ‘This needs to be the album’. It was a blessing.”
Despite his work with XL Recording, the singer’s efforts did not garner significant commercial recognition in the following years. However, he is also recognized for his contributions to Pa Salieu’s debut mixtape, Send Them to Coventry, which was co-produced by the singer and released on November 13, 2020. The mixtape achieved success, reaching number 14 on the UK R&B album chart.
