Grigor Dimitrov and Italy’s Jannik Sinner will face each other in the highly anticipated final of the 2024 Miami Open on Sunday, March 31.

On Friday, Dimitrov beat Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 in the semifinals, thanks to his strong performance of 18 aces and converting two break points. In the two hour and 39 minute match, he earned 99 out of the 188 total points played.

In contrast, Sinner comfortably defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinal match. He impressively generated nine break-point chances on Medvedev’s serve and successfully converted four, securing his spot in the final.

Since the start of the year, Sinner has been in outstanding form. He began 2024 by claiming his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, and shortly after, he emerged victorious at the Rotterdam Open. He then competed in the Indian Wells Masters in California, where he reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

In his match against Medvedev on Friday, the Italian maintained his winning streak with a straight-sets victory, marking his 21st win out of 22 matches this season. As for his head-to-head record against Grigor Dimitrov, he currently holds a lead of 2-1.

During a conversation with Tennis Channel on Friday, Dimitrov recognized the talent of the World No. 3 as they prepare to face each other for the fourth time.

“Clearly, he’s the best player right now in my opinion. He’s been playing outstanding tennis and how he’s been able to keep that actually throughout every single week, it’s a pleasure for me to watch. Now, I’ve to compete against him which is an even better occasion for me,”Dimitrov said [at 7:13].

Further expressing faith in his abilities, Dimitrov said:

“I like these matches, I wanna test myself and it’s a final. It’s one of those matches that I need to focus on my side of the net. Clearly, he’s shown he’s capable, so am I.”

Despite the outcome of the final against Jannik Sinner, Grigor Dimitrov’s impressive performance at the Miami Open, where he has defeated two top-5 players, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, has earned him a spot in the top 10 of the ATP rankings.

Despite this, in the same interview with Tennis Channel, Dimitrov promised to fully dedicate himself in the final against Sinner.

“It can easily be a very interesting match. I don’t wanna overthink or think what’s gonna happen but all I know is I’m going to get out there and give everything I have,”the Bulgarian said.

In addition to Alcaraz and Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov has also defeated Alejandro Tabilo, Yannick Hanfmann, and World No. 9 Hubert Hurkacz in Miami Gardens.
