Jacksepticeye Brings Bloodborne Back to Life with an R-Rated Animated Movie

Sony Pictures Unveils Exciting Bloodborne Animated Film at CinemaCon

During the recent CinemaCon held in Las Vegas, a surprising announcement caught attendees off guard: Sony Pictures is developing an R-rated animated film based on the beloved video game Bloodborne. This project will be led by prominent content creator Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán McLoughlin.

A YouTube Phenomenon Takes the Lead

Jacksepticeye, who has cultivated a massive following over nearly 14 years, currently boasts over 31 million subscribers on YouTube. His previous ventures include a cameo role in the 2021 film Free Guy, a voice role in the Sonic Prime animated series, and an executive producer position for the indie thriller Godmother, directed by John Veron. Recently, this film began production in New Mexico.

Jacksepticeye’s Passion for Adaptation

In a statement posted on the Bloodborne subreddit, Jacksepticeye expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He stated,

I am producing this project, and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!! I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favorite game ever made, but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it. I can’t share much about the project right now, but man, does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening!

Why Animated? A Strategic Choice

The decision to craft an animated film rather than a live-action adaptation is a strategic move by Sony. Producing a live-action film would likely demand a hefty budget, which may not be feasible given the current market conditions. While die-hard fans might be hoping for a remake or even a sequel, this initiative could serve as a gauge for the franchise’s ongoing popularity, over a decade after its original release. Notably, FromSoftware recently declined a remake proposal from Bluepoint Games, leading to the studio’s eventual closure.

Updates on Other Sony Gaming Adaptations

Apart from the Bloodborne news, Sony Pictures shared updates on various other gaming film adaptations. The production of the Helldivers film, featuring Jason Momoa, is set to begin in New Zealand shortly. Director Justin Lin, recognized for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, will lead this project, with the script penned by Gary Dauberman, famed for his screenwriting in It and Annabelle.

Additionally, the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda has recently concluded filming, with Sony confirming a targeted release date of May 7, 2027. This film, directed by Wes Ball, is anticipated to star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason in the lead roles of Link and Zelda, respectively. Moreover, audiences were treated to a fresh trailer for Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger, set to be released in theaters on September 18, 2026.

In summary, these developments underscore a growing trend of adapting popular video game franchises into films, reflecting both industry interest and audience excitement.
