The upcoming iOS 18 promises to be one of the most significant updates in Apple’s iPhone history, yet it appears that some users are facing frustrating bugs that are detracting from the overall experience. Following the recent release of iOS 18.2, many iPhone owners have reported serious problems, particularly involving the camera and flashlight functionalities. Some users have resorted to drastic measures, such as factory resetting their devices, only to find themselves with bricked units.

Widespread Issues in iOS 18.2 with Camera and Flashlight

Reports on platforms like Reddit and X have emerged, detailing a range of issues stemming from the iOS 18.2 update. Users insist that these problems did not exist prior to the update. For example, one user identified as Cryptographer64 described persistent camera failures, stating that the app would occasionally display a black screen or malfunction entirely. Many describe needing to restart the app multiple times to regain functionality.

Ever since I updated to iOS 18.2 my camera refuses to work sometimes; for example, when I try to use the camera app, it shows just a black screen. I have to reopen it 2-3 times to finally get it to work, which is also the case with Snapchat. Plus, my flashlight often fails to activate via the action button or control center.

Another user echoed these experiences, initially believing the problem was unique to their new device. After consulting online forums, they discovered that the issues were widespread following the iOS 18.2 update.

Same with me! I thought it was my phone at first, but looking at forums, it seemed to be happening with 18.2. I just got my phone last weekend and was about to exchange it, but this appears to be a software issue. I’m currently having trouble with the flashlight; it takes around 10 seconds to activate when it always used to be instant. When I enter apps like Snapchat, the camera doesn’t work and just shows a black screen for a while before finally activating.

In a particularly concerning incident, one user recounted calling Apple support, where representatives recommended a factory reset to resolve the issues. Unfortunately, the user followed this advice, and their iPhone was left inoperable due to an error encountered during the reset process. The current lack of response from Apple raises questions about accountability regarding these ongoing issues.

If you call Apple, they will just blame the issue on your hardware. I’ve been dealing with this for a week, and the latest advice was to factory reset my phone. I did that, and an error occurred; now my phone is bricked. Apple claimed it was my cord, although I’m using the one that came with the phone. They seem to be deflecting blame until they can address what many are calling the worst update they’ve ever released.
