Intel’s advanced 14A process technology has gained a significant advocate in Elon Musk, who will be implementing this cutting-edge technology at Tesla’s TeraFab project. This development marks a pivotal moment for both companies as they strive to innovate within the semiconductor arena.
Revolutionizing TeraFab: The Intel and Elon Musk Partnership
During Tesla’s Q1 2026 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk officially announced that Tesla’s TeraFab project would harness Intel’s much-anticipated 14A processing technology, which is poised to transform their manufacturing capabilities within the foundry sector.
Musk emphasized his excitement about utilizing Intel’s 14A process, describing it as “state-of-the-art.”He acknowledged, however, that the technology is still under development and not yet ready for mass production. He expressed confidence that by the time TeraFab ramps up its operations, the 14A technology will have matured, making it viable for producing Tesla’s custom silicon.
Intel is excited to partner with us on some of the core manufacturing technologies. We plan to use Intel’s 14A process, which is state-of-the-art and in fact, not yet totally complete. Given that by the time TeraFab scales up, 14A will be probably fairly mature or ready for prime time, 14A seems like the right move. We have a great relationship with Intel. A lot of respect for the CEO, the CTO and the new team there. We think it’s going to be a great partnership.
Elon Musk – Tesla CEO
This announcement follows recent reports indicating that further details about the TeraFab initiative would soon be unveiled. Musk has previously highlighted Tesla’s advancements in AI custom silicon, which leverage partnerships with major manufacturers like Samsung and TSMC to produce the latest innovations, including the AI5, AI6, and AI6.5 chips.

Tesla is expected to be one of the first major clients to adopt Intel’s 14A process technology. The company’s endorsement of this tech not only boosts confidence in Intel’s innovative capabilities but also reinforces its position as a formidable contender in the foundry market.
