No Rest for the Wicked is a game that challenges players right from the beginning, providing minimal guidance outside of the tutorial. While quests are marked, players may still find themselves navigating through confusion about their next steps. This comprehensive guide aims to clarify essential priorities after your shipwreck, ensuring a smoother journey in this demanding world.
Gear Up and Gather Materials

As you awaken on a deserted beach with nothing but your tattered clothes, your first critical objective is to equip yourself while steering clear of combat. A small hideout located north of your starting point is your best bet for gathering essential gear.
From your starting location, proceed northeast until you discover a large, green sewer puddle. Make a right turn, and you’ll spot a path bending northward that leads to a broken sewer grate. Inside this hideout, you’ll find valuable resources like Artemisia Herbs and a chest brimming with loot. With a bit of luck, you might score some armor and a weapon here.
Remember, if you come across tools (like an Axe, Shovel, Fishing Rod, or Pickaxe), utilize them to collect every resource and cooking ingredient available, including Artemisia Herbs and Crabs. They will prove invaluable later in your journey.
Reach Sacrament

Before you can enter Sacrament, you’ll need to clear a bandit-infested keep and defeat a formidable monster boss guarding the town gate: Warrick the Torn. While intimidating in appearance, this boss is manageable. Focus on dodging his lengthy attack combos, wait for him to tire, and unleash your own attacks. Repeat this strategy until victory is yours, then cross the bridge to enter the town.
The Path Diverges

Once you’ve recharged at the Rookery following your boss battle, you’ll find new opportunities awaiting you:
- Engage in Building Projects by providing materials to Maker Danos.
- This allows you to enhance merchants and discover shortcuts throughout Sacrament.
- Continue the Main Questline by embarking on the Servant of God quest located to the east.
- Ascend to the highest point in Sacrament and locate the route leading to the Nameless Pass.
- Unlock the Crucible by visiting the mason’s house in the northern cemetery area of Sacrament.
- This unlocks vital combat features for your adventure.
Complete Building Projects

While navigating through No Rest for the Wicked’s landscape, you should strive to accomplish Building Projects concurrently with your other activities. This allows for substantial progress in the game. Here are key projects to prioritize:
- Filmore’s Smithy
- Eleanor’s Enchantment Shop
- Whittacker’s Crafting Shack
- Grinnich’s General Goods
- Gordon’s Pantry
- Ilaria’s Sanctum (ideal for unarmed/fist weapon builds)
- Mira and Meri’s Tailor Shop
- Danos’ Architecture Study
- Caroline’s Inn
Upgrading Filmore’s Smithy and Eleanor’s Enchantment Shops first grants you swift access to superior weapons and Runes. In addition, Whittacker’s Crafting Shack provides enhanced furniture for your home, encompassing storage solutions. Grinnich’s General Goods is also crucial, offering a variety of Rings and resources.
Gordon’s Pantry unlocks advanced cooking recipes and allows access to a Stove for better meals; prioritize this upgrade around the Servant of God quest. The choice to upgrade Ilaria’s Sanctum should align with your combat style, particularly if focusing on unarmed builds. For armor, remember that plenty is available for free through Captain Randolph’s bounties.
Next Steps After Servant of God

Upon completing the Servant of God quest, make your way to the main plaza of Sacrament—located directly in front of Danos. You can expect a cutscene to unfold here; after it concludes, interact with the nearby dog marked with a question. This will guide you to your next story quest.
If the cutscene fails to trigger, ensure that you have first completed the Of Rats and Raiders quest. While the initial stages may seem straightforward, the latter portion will direct you to the Black Trench, a zone meant for level 15 players. If you’ve successfully navigated the Servant of God quest, finishing Of Rats and Raiders should be manageable.
Farming XP and Gear

If you’re feeling underpowered for the challenges in the Nameless Pass or the Crucible, consider farming XP and equipment through bounties issued by Captain Randolph, located near the Whisper in Sacrament. He provides both Daily and Weekly Bounties, along with various Challenges that yield valuable equipment. If you find that none align with your build, you can sell them for funds.
In case you’ve exhausted available bounties, keep in mind that all enemies, resources, and treasure chests respawn every in-game hour. The world resets when fog of war reappears on your map in previously explored regions.
Make it a point to open chests for opportunities to discover gems suitable for Infusions. If you unearth a Diamond, slot it into your armor for significant bonus XP gains.
Acquire & Use Plague Ichors

Plague Ichors serve as a crucial upgrade material that can be given to the Watcher at the Rookery. Utilize them to enhance your inventory, unlock additional equipment slots, and increase your Hunger count, which determines the number of healing items you can consume during combat.
To acquire Plague Ichors, complete Weekly Bounties from Captain Randolph. Additionally, defeating significant bosses in the game will reward you with Plague Ichors as well.
