However, there’s no need to completely eliminate acceleration. Instead, consider utilizing the free Raw Accel application, which provides users with refined control over mouse acceleration settings.

With this application, you can specify the exact point at which acceleration starts and set a ceiling on maximum acceleration.   • Sens Multiplier: This controls the cursor speed. A setting of 1 means native DPI is unchanged. Lowering it below 1 decreases speed, while raising above 1 increases speed accordingly.
  • Y/X Ratio: Modify the vertical speed compared to horizontal speed. This adjustment is particularly beneficial for gamers who wish to control vertical recoil while maintaining speed for aiming.
  • Acceleration Styles: Here, you can choose how acceleration applies, such as Linear for consistent acceleration or Power for variable bursts. For optimum performance, Linear is typically recommended.

  • Acceleration: Adjusts the strength of acceleration. A standard value for a 1600 DPI mouse is around 0.05, but personal preference may warrant adjustments.
  • Cap Type: This setting determines how to limit maximum acceleration. The Output Cap controls maximum cursor speed, while the Input Cap monitors physical mouse movement speed.
  • Input Offset: Here, you define when acceleration engages based on physical movement speed, ensuring precision on slow movements.

Once you are familiar with these options, you can input values that best align with your preferences. As a reference, here are my recommended settings that work well for general usage and gaming:

  • Direction Multiply: 1
  • Y/X Ratio: Locked
  • Acceleration Style: Linear

Reducing Input Lag with Raw Accel

In addition to controlling acceleration, Raw Accel can also help reduce input lag, particularly beneficial for users with high-DPI gaming mice. Devices with a DPI of 1600 to 3200 generally register movements quicker, yielding a decrease in input lag (3-5ms).However, operating at such high DNIs isn’t practical for most users due to excessive sensitivity.

For instance, utilizing a 3200 DPI mouse but setting the Sens Multiplier to 0.25 can effectively bring your working DPI down to 800 while retaining the benefits of lower input lag.
