Greedfall developer Spiders is facing an imminent closure, as it recently filed for insolvency. This distressing news comes as its parent company, Nacon, seems unable to secure a buyer for the studio.
Nacon’s situation worsened after it filed for insolvency, primarily attributed to financial instability linked to its main investor. Reports indicate that the company sought to divest two of its subsidiaries, Spiders and the motion capture facility named Nacon Tech. However, recent updates from Origami suggest that Nacon has been unsuccessful in finding a buyer for Spiders, a studio that has made a mark since its inception in 2008.
As a result of this imminent closure, all developers at Spiders are likely to face layoffs, raising further questions about Nacon’s future, which now appears less stable than ever.

Reflecting back to January 2026, Nacon appeared stable. However, chaos ensued after its major investor, Bigben Interactive, failed to finalize a crucial refinancing deal. This turmoil led to Nacon’s insolvency filing, followed subsequently by similar actions from its subsidiaries, including Cyanide, Spiders, Kylotonn, and Nacon Tech. As the fate of the latter three remains uncertain, Spiders seems to be on the brink of closure.
Despite these challenges, Nacon has endeavored to maintain some operational normalcy. The company recently released Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss and announced a new installment in the Hunter: The Reckoning series, alongside the anticipated launch date for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Moreover, Nacon reassured stakeholders that this wasn’t the end, pushing the postponed Nacon Connect event from March to a yet-to-be-determined date in May 2026.
Meanwhile, Spiders has been working diligently to rectify numerous issues in Greedfall 2: The Dying World, which recently transitioned out of early access. The studio’s commitment to user experience is evident, with the latest patch being released just yesterday. Unfortunately, it appears that unresolved issues with the game may remain unaddressed as the studio nears closure.
The looming shut down of Spiders serves as a stark reminder of the fragility faced by many veteran studios in the gaming industry. The hope is to prevent similar fates from befalling Nacon’s other subsidiaries, though that risk is increasingly tangible.
