Google’s NotebookLM Now Supports YouTube Videos

Last year, Google launched NotebookLM, an innovative AI-powered notebook designed to enhance user productivity by utilizing content from PDFs, Google Docs, Slides, websites, and much more. After a global rollout, Google has continually improved the user experience, and today, they announced expanded capabilities, including support for YouTube videos within NotebookLM.

With the newly added YouTube video support, users can easily paste a public YouTube video’s URL into their notebook, making it an expert reference that can provide responses grounded in your video content. NotebookLM is capable of summarizing essential concepts and allows users to delve into details through inline citations directly linked to the video’s transcript. Additionally, users can watch the videos directly within NotebookLM using the embedded YouTube player.

In addition to support for YouTube videos, NotebookLM is now incorporating support for audio recordings. Users can utilize NotebookLM to search transcribed conversations to find specific information and create study guides from class recordings, handwritten notes, and lecture slides, all with a single click.

Earlier this month, NotebookLM also received a new feature known as Audio Overview, enabling users to transform documents, slides, charts, and more into engaging discussions with just one click. Google has also simplified the sharing process for the created Audio Overview; users only need to click “share” to generate a public link.

Here’s how to utilize the new YouTube video support and Audio Overview in NotebookLM:

  1. Visit NotebookLM
  2. Create a new notebook
  3. Add a public YouTube URL or an audio file
  4. Generate an Audio Overview
  5. After the Audio Overview is prepared, click share

NotebookLM is now accessible to both individual consumers and enterprise organizations. Depending on the user’s needs, Google Workspace admins can enable NotebookLM for an entire enterprise or educational domain.

With these new functionalities, NotebookLM is increasingly establishing itself as a powerful tool for learning, research, and collaboration. Google’s ongoing enhancements to NotebookLM reflect its dedication to advancing AI-powered productivity tools.
