Introducing “Catch Me Up”: A New Google Drive Feature to Track File Changes
Google has unveiled an innovative functionality for Google Drive titled “Catch me up.”This feature aims to simplify the process of monitoring changes to your documents without the need for tedious manual searches. Interestingly, it shares its name with a comparable tool in Google Chat, which assists users in swiftly reconnecting with ongoing discussions without wading through extensive message histories.
How “Catch Me Up”Works
With the recent update, the Gemini AI system will now identify files within your Google Drive that have undergone modifications since your last access. This tool delivers concise summaries of these updates, alleviating the stress of determining what’s new or essential among your files. It encompasses alterations made to Google Docs, as well as any new comments added to Docs, Sheets, and Slides. While Google has clarified that the summary may not cover every detail, it is designed to highlight noteworthy changes.
Finding and Using the Feature
Locating the “Catch me up”feature is straightforward. Users can spot a dedicated prompt on the Google Drive homepage. Upon clicking this prompt, a summary will be displayed in the Gemini side panel. For those interested in specific files, an activity indicator will appear on documents that may have been altered. Users can either click this indicator directly or select the file and utilize the “catch me up”button in the selection toolbar to access a quick overview of modifications.

Availability and Target Audience
The “Catch me up”feature is currently being rolled out in English and will be available over a period of up to 15 days for users on both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. This rollout will touch various Google Workspace accounts, including users of Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, as well as customers who have purchased the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons. Additionally, Google One AI Premium subscribers will also have access to this new functionality. Notably, users who acquired the Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons prior to their discontinuation for new sales on January 15, 2025, will retain access to this feature.
With this update, Google continues to enhance user experience in Drive, making file management not only more efficient but also more intuitive.
