Google Gemini Enhances Gmail with Calendar Integration
In a recent blog post, Google unveiled an exciting update for its Gemini service, enabling users to seamlessly add calendar events directly from their Gmail messages. This feature aims to streamline the process of managing appointments, making it easier for users to stay organized.
How It Works
Upon detecting calendar-related information within an email, Gemini will showcase an “Add to Calendar”button just below the email subject line. Clicking this button opens a sidebar, confirming that the event has been successfully added to the user’s Google Calendar. It’s important to note that added events will not automatically include guest notifications.
If adjustments are needed—whether for correcting an error in the event details or for any other reason—users can easily modify the entry by clicking on the pencil icon to edit.
Availability and Rollout Details
This new feature will be accessible to Google Workspace users subscribed to specific plans, including:
- Business Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Individuals with the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on
- Google One AI Premium subscribers
Additionally, if you have previously purchased Gemini’s Business or Enterprise add-ons, you will gain access to this feature as well.
The rollout officially commenced on March 10, 2025. However, the availability will vary depending on the release track of the user’s account. Rapid Release users can anticipate immediate access, while Scheduled Release users may receive it according to a defined timetable, typically about a week later. Full rollout completion is expected by mid-April 2025.
Important Considerations
At present, this feature is only available in English and exclusively on the web. The “Add to Calendar”functionality will not be enabled for emails containing previously extracted events, such as flight itineraries.
Gemini’s Growing Role in Google Workspace
Gemini serves as Google’s response to the rising popularity of AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT. Over recent months, Google has intensified the integration of Gemini within its Workspace tools, enhancing user experiences across its platforms.
For instance, last August, Google introduced the Gemini-powered Gmail Q&A feature, allowing users to query their emails and receive informative replies. Beyond calendar management, Gemini assists in summarizing messages, suggesting responses, and even generating visuals for Google Slides.
