Former WWE star recalls awkward backstage interaction he had with Cain Velasquez about Brock Lesnar (Exclusive)

Brock Lesnar is one of the few athletes who have successfully conquered both MMA and pro wrestling. EC3 recently shared a story about Lesnar and his longtime rival, Cain Velasquez.

Despite joining the WWE in 2019 with much anticipation, Cain Velasquez’s reputation preceded him as one of UFC’s most formidable heavyweights, with a previous victory over Brock in the Octagon. Transitioning to professional wrestling, he was granted an opportunity with the Stamford-based company and trained at their renowned Performance Center, honing his skills inside the ring.

EC3 was present at one of Velasquez’s sessions at the WWE PC, during which he shared an interaction he had with the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

When Lesnar’s entrance theme began to play, EC3 turned to Velasquez and brought up his previous win against The Beast Incarnate. To EC3’s astonishment, he received an unexpected and uncomfortable reply.

“Funny, quick story. We were at the Performance Center, and we’re all in the gym, and they are filming a video, they hadn’t used licensed music, so they were playing westlers’ theme songs, and Brock’s song came on. He was sitting there, working out next to me, and I’m like, ‘Hey.’ [He goes], ‘Yeah’. ‘You beat him.’ He’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ [laughs]. I’m like, ‘it’s Brock Lesnar’s theme song.’”[From 3:10 onwards]

Despite being new to WWE at the time, Cain Velasquez likely had no knowledge of Brock Lesnar’s theme song and cannot be faulted for it.

The intense rivalry between Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar

Despite dominating the UFC Heavyweight division, The Beast Incarnate’s reign came to an end in 2010 when Cain Velasquez emerged and disrupted his reign.

At UFC 121, Lesnar defended his UFC Heavyweight Title against Velasquez but was defeated in the first round. Velasquez put an end to Lesnar’s reign and was awarded the Knockout of the Year for his victory over the WWE star.

Despite gaining several significant wins in the UFC, Cain Velasquez ultimately decided to retire from MMA due to various factors. This decision ultimately led to his signing with the WWE.

The pro wrestling organization quickly arranged for Velasquez to make his debut against Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, showcasing him in a highly anticipated match.

Despite the surprising turn of events, Lesnar quickly defeated Velasquez in a short WWE Championship match and emerged victorious through submission. Tragically, this bout with Brock marked Cain’s debut and final appearance in a televised WWE match.
