Fight Terence Crawford or be stripped of WBO belt? New champion Sebastian Fundora answers
Despite being the underdog, Sebastian Fundora shocked the boxing community when he claimed the WBO super welterweight championship title on March 30 with a split decision victory over Tim Tszyu.
Despite being a last-minute replacement for Keith Thurman, Tszyu’s opponent, Fundora, was still considered a +400 underdog, leading many to predict a successful title defense for the Australian.
Despite suffering his first career loss to Brian Mendoza in 2023, ‘The Towering Inferno’ proved his resilience and skill to the boxing world as he put on a superb performance against ‘The Soul Taker’.
As the WBO mandatory challenger at 154 pounds, Terence Crawford was asked if he would prefer to face ‘Bud’ next or take on Errol Spence Jr., who had also expressed interest in fighting him, by the new champion.
If he decides to confront ‘The Truth’ instead, he will lose the title he just earned. He made this statement during his press conference after the fight.
“Whatever they give me, whatever they give me. Errol Spence Jr. is a great opportunity, I think it’s a match made in heaven,. But Terence Crawford is the best fighter in the world. I would like to fight him.”

Will Sebastian Fundora consider a rematch with Tim Tszyu?
Tim Tszyu had been aiming to retain his WBO super welterweight championship for a second time as he unexpectedly squared off against Sebastian Fundora.
Despite being Fundora’s first title fight at this level, with minimal preparation time, it was not expected that an upset would occur. However, the fight became increasingly challenging for Tszyu as the rounds went on, as an unintentional elbow caused a severe cut on the Australian’s head in Round 2.
Despite admitting that the flow of blood into his eyes had impacted his vision during the fight, ‘The Soul Taker’ addressed the press during the post-fight conference.
After the cut altered the course of the match, ‘The Towering Inferno’ was questioned about the possibility of granting Tszyu a prompt rematch in his post-fight interview. He responded with:
“I don’t know. That’s not my part of the business so I just go in the ring and I fight. I’m going to give [the microphone] to my promoter.”
According to his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, this was stated:
“There’s a verbal rematch clause, but I believe as the promoter I must maximize the income of my fighter.”
