Explore Fascinating Discoveries Online with Viralwalk

Picture yourself wandering through the vast expanse of the Internet, much like taking a stroll. You can discover random websites, unearth new interests, and indulge your curiosity. All that’s required is a visit to Viralwalk, a platform that transforms your online exploration into an enjoyable adventure.

Understanding Viralwalk

Did you realize that the Internet hosts over 1.5 billion websites, but only around 200 million are actively maintained? A simple search on Google or other search engines will hardly reveal all the remarkable hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.

Viralwalk serves one clear purpose: to facilitate your journey through the web. The platform allows you to hop from one site to another randomly. It’s typical to jump from a website dedicated to endangered owls directly to a platform focusing on AI programming.

The site features curated collections and provides options to tailor your browsing experience. Fresh sites, including the latest viral content, are continuously added.

However, it’s important to note that this platform does not delve into the dark web.

Experience Five Distinct Walking Modes

A standout feature of Viralwalk is its five unique “walk”modes. While four modes are available for free users, many find this more than sufficient for a satisfying experience.

The available walking modes include:

  • Walk – The default option where pressing Walk takes you to a new site that opens within Viralwalk. Feel free to explore and interact with the content as long as you wish before moving on. By liking or disliking sites, you can help the platform tailor your recommendations.
  • Chill – Enjoy random backgrounds instead of websites as a relaxing backdrop while you unwind from your online journey.
  • Flow – Prefer not to view entire sites immediately? In Flow mode, you scroll to see options and click on Open Site to visit chosen pages.
  • Mood – Although it’s tucked away in a three-dot menu in the top right corner after logging in, Mood presents curated selections based on your chosen theme. You can also explore random Moods.
Viewing mood boards.
  • Motion (premium feature) – This mode presents sites as cards, displaying four or more at once. You can even enjoy random YouTube or Spotify playlists—without needing a Spotify account—to enhance your browsing ambiance. I found this mode enjoyable during a free trial, although viewing one site at a time felt less overwhelming for me.

When you’re ready to end your session in any mode, simply click the back arrow at the top left of the Viralwalk site (not the browser’s back button) or tap the Viralwalk icon to return to the homepage while in Mood mode.

Customizing Your Browsing Experience

Given its random nature, Viralwalk can be incredibly diverse, which can be a double-edged sword. Nevertheless, the platform provides various ways to personalize your experience. It’s not a flawless system, but after a week or two of usage, I found that my recommended sites more closely aligned with my interests. To customize your results, you must first create a free account.

When presented with a suggested site, utilize the thumbs up/down or More of this / Less of This options (these may appear as + and – depending on the mode). This feedback helps the platform better understand your preferences.

All your Likes will be visibly organized on your dashboard upon logging in.

To further refine your preferences, click on your profile icon in the top right corner of your dashboard where you’ll find three additional customization options:

  • Enable NSFW (not safe for work) content. This is off by default.
  • Add Interests – Select specific interests to receive more targeted content.
  • Block keywords (premium option only) – If there are certain topics you dislike, use this feature to exclude those sites.

Bookmark Your Discoveries While Walking

One of my favorite features is the ability to collect bookmarks as you browse. Each site visited allows you to bookmark it within Viralwalk. Simply create an album to categorize your finds—I recommend establishing themed albums for easier access later.

When on a site you wish to bookmark, click the Add to album button (represented by three lines with a + sign). You can either choose an existing album or create a new one. I’ve noticed the color option doesn’t always work, but you can change this later. Fill in all necessary details and select Create album.

Albums are private by default; if you wish to make one public, check the box titled Make this album public.

It’s important to note that creating an album doesn’t save the link itself initially. You need to click the Add to album button again, choose the album, and select a list to store your link in. The default list is called First list, but this can be renamed or deleted for organization purposes.

Simply click the desired list, and your link will be added automatically.

Adding lists to albums.

All organized albums and links are accessible from your dashboard once logged in.

If you wish to customize an album or list further, click on the album from your dashboard. You’ll find multiple options beneath the album title, such as adding lists, rearranging links (drag and drop), editing multiple items, changing color themes, toggling public/private status, and even uploading a custom album image.

Investing some time in organizing your albums can simplify bookmark management, preventing chaos.

Currently, sharing an entire album or list is not an option; you can only share individual sites. Click on any saved site to load it, and then select the Share icon.

Free Access vs. Premium Upgrade

Free users can enjoy up to five sites per day without needing an account. By creating a free account, you can increase that limit to 20 sites daily, which helps avoid endless scrolling. Premium users benefit from unlimited daily walks, site visit history, customizable themes, and access to Motion mode for a fee of $8 per month. Personally, I find the free version to be more than adequate, though I can see the utility of site visit history.
