Upgrade Your iPhone Reminders: Ensuring You Never Miss Time-Critical Tasks

iPhone reminders serve as an effective way to manage tasks, but what happens when a crucial notification is missed because your device isn’t within reach? With the introduction of iOS 26.2, Apple provides a practical solution: the ability to attach alarms to important reminders. This enhancement ensures that your reminders are unmistakable and heard, even when you are not actively checking your phone. Here’s how you can make sure your reminders cannot be overlooked.

How to Set an Alarm for Urgent Reminders on Your iPhone

To utilize this new feature, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, which is currently 26.2. To confirm your software version, navigate to Settings, followed by General and Software Update. If an update is available, proceed to install it.

Default reminders on your iPhone trigger with a notification sound and a banner. However, you can enhance this experience significantly. Begin by opening the Reminders app and creating a new reminder using the blue + button located in the lower right corner.

Pressing the

Once in the reminder creation interface, enter a title, your notes, and a URL if necessary. Following this, set the Date and Time. Lastly, don’t forget to mark your reminder as Urgent by toggling the last option. This action automatically generates an alarm for your reminder, which will not appear in the Clock app.

If you need to update an existing reminder to be marked as Urgent, simply click on the All button to review all your reminders.

Select the reminder you wish to edit, tap on the calendar icon to access date and time settings, and choose Custom to enable the Urgent toggle there.

This feature isn’t exclusive to iPhones; you can also create Urgent reminders using your Mac, and they will sync with your iPhone if both devices are connected.

How to Reschedule an Urgent Reminder on Your iPhone

When your Urgent reminder sounds, it will take over your entire screen similar to a standard alarm. You have the option to Snooze for an additional 9 minutes; however, unlike the Clock’s alarm, you cannot modify the Snooze duration.

Alternatively, you can choose Slide to Stop, after which your iPhone will show a Live Activity with your reminder’s title, giving you the chance to mark it as completed.

If you prefer a more straightforward option, you can replace the Slide to Stop button with just a Stop button. To set this preference, navigate to Settings, then Accessibility, and select Touch. Finally, enable Prefer Single-Touch Actions.

After you hit Stop or use Slide to Stop, a Live Activity banner will appear, displaying the reminder name. You can tap Reschedule to access the Reminders app and modify the time or date of the reminder as needed. You can also toggle off the Urgent option if it’s no longer necessary.

Remember that you cannot dismiss the Live Activity on your lock screen without taking action; you must either reschedule the reminder or mark it as done.

If your iPhone’s screen is active when the Urgent reminder goes off, it will be displayed at the top of the screen showing options for Zzz (Snooze) and X (Stop).

How to Replace the Snooze Button with the Complete Button for Urgent Reminders on Your iPhone

If you’re certain that Snoozing your urgent reminders isn’t necessary, you can substitute the Snooze button with a Complete button.

To implement this, open the Settings app and scroll to Apps. Locate Reminders within the list.

With this setting active, when your Urgent reminder triggers, you will now see the Complete button on your screen, streamlining your task management.
