Elon Musk Praises Apple AirPods Pro 2 Hearing Aid Feature as ‘Cool’

Introduction of the Hearing Aid Feature in AirPods Pro 2

In the recent September event, Apple unveiled its groundbreaking AirPods Pro 2, which includes a unique feature known as Hearing Aid. This innovative addition aims to assist individuals with hearing impairments by delivering clearer and more vibrant sounds directly through the earbuds. Notably, this feature has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marking a significant step in auditory technology.

Widespread Acclaim for Hearing Aid

The Hearing Aid feature has already attracted significant attention and praise from various quarters, including high-profile figures like Elon Musk, who is acknowledged as the richest individual globally.

Elon Musk’s Enthusiastic Endorsement

On Thursday, Apple CEO Tim Cook showcased an advertisement for the Hearing Aid feature, which depicts a father with hearing challenges using the AirPods Pro 2 to experience the joy of his daughter unwrapping Christmas gifts. Musk responded positively on social media, tweeting, “This is cool,”emphasizing the remarkable impact of the technology.

Tim Cook’s Commitment to Technological Advancement

In his tweet, Tim Cook expressed immense pride in Apple’s teams, stating, “I’m so proud of the many teams across Apple developing powerful technologies that are improving people’s lives. The Hearing Aid feature on AirPods Pro 2 uses your personalized sound profile so you can hear the moments that matter.”

The Need for Hearing Assistance

Statistics from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) reveal that approximately 1 in 8 individuals in the United States, translating to around 30 million people aged 12 and older, experience hearing loss in both ears. Furthermore, about 5% of adults aged 45-54 suffer from significant hearing impairments.

Compatibility and Accessibility

The AirPods Pro 2’s Hearing Test and Hearing Aid functionalities are compatible with iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 and later. Additionally, Mac devices equipped with macOS Sequoia and later versions now support the Hearing Aid feature as well. Apple specifies that the feature is intended for individuals who are 18 years and older.

Global Reach of the Hearing Aid Feature

Currently, Apple’s Hearing Aid is available in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, with a growing number expanding to include the Hearing Test functionality. However, the Hearing Protection feature from Apple is currently limited to users in the United States and Canada.
