The women’s singles final at the 2024 Miami Open will see Elena Rybakina and Danielle Collins face off against each other.

Both players have displayed exceptional performance throughout the tournament, although their journeys to the final have been different. While Danielle Collins has not lost a single set, Elena Rybakina has had all but one of her matches extend to three sets.

As the fourth seed in the WTA 1000 event, Rybakina received a first-round bye due to her seeded status. She began her tournament with a challenging match against Clara Tauson, ultimately winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. In the following round, she narrowly defeated Taylor Townsend 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-4. Her sole straight-set victory in Miami was in the fourth round, where she defeated Madison Keys 6-3, 7-5.

In the following match, Rybakina narrowly defeated her compatriot 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-4. She then went on to face three-time champion Victoria Azarenka, ultimately triumphing 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(2) and securing her spot in the Miami Open final for the second consecutive year.

Similarly to the Kazakh player, Danielle Collins began her campaign in Miami in the first round. She overcame a set deficit to defeat fellow American Bernarda Pera with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. She continued her winning streak by defeating 30th seed Anastasia Potapova with a dominant score of 6-2, 6-2 in the second round, securing her spot in the third round. In the third round, she cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory against Elina Avanesyan.

After defeating 19th seed Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth round, Collins advanced to the quarterfinals. She then faced 23rd seed Caroline Garcia and once again won with a score of 6-3, 6-2, securing her spot in her second WTA 1000 semifinal. In the semifinals, Collins faced off against 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and continued her streak of 6-3, 6-2 wins, earning herself a spot in her first ever WTA 1000 final.

The upcoming Miami Open final will mark the fifth time that Collins and Rybakina have faced each other, with Rybakina currently holding a 3-1 advantage in their head-to-head record.
