Recently, DJ Vlad weighed in on the legal troubles facing rapper Lil Durk, who was arrested on murder-for-hire charges in Florida on October 24. The 32-year-old Chicago artist is currently held at Broward County Jail without the option for bail.
Lil Durk’s arrest occurred just hours after five members of his Only The Family (OFT) group were detained for their alleged roles in a “murder-for-hire and murder conspiracy”concerning the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, the cousin of rapper Quando Rondo.
On X, Vlad criticized Lil Durk, labeling him “stupid”for reportedly sending five individuals on a flight with the intent to kill. He noted that they mistakenly targeted the wrong individual, asserting that Quando Rondo was the actual intended victim of the attack in 2022.
“In various discussions, I’ve consistently said that sending someone to kill you on a plane would be incredibly foolish. There would be so much evidence to convict them. Yet, today, I find myself proven wrong,”Vlad commented.
He elaborated:
“Lil Durk was foolish enough to dispatch five people on a flight to eliminate Quando Rondo. Unfortunately for them, they ended up killing someone else entirely. Now, all six face the possibility of life imprisonment or the death penalty.”
According to XXL Magazine, the indictment in Los Angeles alleges that the flight and taxi expenses for the five OFT members were covered by a company card. It was also suggested that an unnamed member of OFT promised “rewarding music opportunities”in exchange for carrying out the murder of Quando Rondo.
Back in August 2022, Quando Rondo and Saviay’a Robinson were attacked by armed assailants while in a vehicle in Los Angeles. Rondo managed to escape, but unfortunately, Robinson lost his life in the incident.
The motive behind the attack seems tied to Rondo’s alleged connection to the death of King Von, a close associate of Lil Durk, who was killed in a shooting in Atlanta in 2020 by individuals supposedly connected to Rondo.
Lil Durk dissed DJ Vlad in a track released in 2022
Rapper Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, targeted DJ Vlad in his song “Golden Child”from the album 7220 released in 2022. The lyrics suggest he was severing ties with the journalist with the line:
“I don’t speak tongues, period; I don’t f**k with Vlad.”
At that time, DJ Vlad expressed confusion over the diss, stating there was no apparent animosity between them. However, DJ Akademiks clarified the situation in a June 2023 conversation.
Akademiks explained that Durk was upset with Vlad because the journalist inadvertently disclosed the baby’s birth and gender during a 2018 interview with India, Durk’s partner. Vlad had allegedly promised to remove that information before the interview was released.
“Lil Durk said the issue arose because during an interview with Vlad, I mentioned my child’s upcoming birth. He had requested you to edit that out. However, it wasn’t removed, which could be quite sensitive,” DJ Akademiks shared.
After learning from Akademiks about the reason for Durk’s disappointment, Vlad issued an apology to both Lil Durk and India. He also noted that the interview segment was promptly removed upon realizing the oversight and apologized to Durk’s PR team at the time.
“As the head of my company, I want to extend a personal apology to both Durk and India. This situation regarding children carries substantial weight and permanence. Publicizing the arrival or gender of a child should be treasured, and I regret that our actions undermined that moment. I sincerely apologize,” Vlad said.
Lil Durk, known for his impactful contributions to the hip-hop scene, released his debut studio album in 2015. His upcoming project, titled “Deep Thoughts,”is anticipated to arrive in November 2024.
