Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Ultimates #8! Marvel Comics has embarked on an exciting new chapter with the launch of an all-new Ultimate Universe. Although this continuity is still developing, early indications suggest that fans might already foresee the ultimate fate of this universe. Current theories point to a potentially heart-wrenching conclusion for the Ultimate Universe, with some compelling evidence emerging from the latest installment of The Ultimates.
The Introduction of a New Team in The Ultimates #8
In The Ultimates #8, penned by Deniz Camp with art by Juan Frigeri, readers are introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy from Earth-6160. Within this new Ultimate Universe, the Guardians comprise iconic characters such as Star Lord, Captain Marvel, Cosmo, the Ultimate Nullifier, and, formerly, America Chavez. This cosmic team possesses the extraordinary ability to traverse not only the vast expanses of space but also the complex fabric of time itself; their spaceship functions as a time machine, allowing them to journey back from the 61st Century.

As a result of their time-bending capabilities, the Guardians are privy to knowledge about the Ultimate Universe’s destiny, particularly concerning the overarching antagonist, the Maker. Having manipulated the timeline to suit his goals, the Maker travels to Earth-6160 using his own time machine. This sets the stage for an inevitable confrontation against the Ultimates, who are striving to reclaim their shattered reality from the Maker’s malevolent grasp.
Will the Maker Prevail in the Ultimate Universe?
The Guardians’ Insight: A Premonition of Defeat
The Guardians’ mission back in time primarily aimed to rescue America Chavez, who had become trapped in the timestream during one of their previous adventures, resulting in her amnesia. Despite the alarming revelation from the Guardians regarding the Ultimates’ doomed fate, America chooses to remain with the Ultimates. Utilizing their telepathic abilities, the Guardians reveal a troubling vision of a future where the Ultimates face off against the Maker and are ultimately defeated.

According to the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Ultimate Universe is on the brink of destruction, setting the stage for the Maker’s supremacy and the perpetual defeat of the Ultimates. The Maker’s interference with the timestream has significant repercussions, causing the timeline of Earth-6160 to unravel, erasing the established universe and replacing it with one of the Maker’s own design. Tragically, the heroes are seemingly powerless to avert this fate.

A Glimmer of Hope: The Potential for Victory
While the outlook appears bleak following the Guardians’ visit, hope remains for the Ultimates. Although one potential future forecasts the Maker’s triumph over the Ultimates, it is important to remember that this is merely one possible outcome. The very essence of the Ultimate Universe revolves around time travel, suggesting that the future is in constant flux. While the Maker may attain victory in one timeline, there are numerous alternative futures where the heroes emerge victorious, and it falls upon the Ultimates to shape a preferable outcome.

Despite the Maker’s apparent mastery over time, evidenced by his successful conquest of the Ultimate Universe, the intricacies of time travel offer a pathway to redemption for the Ultimates. There remains a faint hope that they can alter the timeline and rewrite their tragic fate. Nevertheless, if the grim predictions hold true, Marvel may have just revealed how the new Ultimate Universe might meet its somber end.
