In the expansive world of Borderlands 4, players have a multitude of adventures to embark upon throughout the vibrant map of Kairos. From hunting for Vault Key Fragments to dismantling propaganda speakers, the game is brimming with engaging side quests and activities.
A particularly lucrative endeavor is exploring the Abandoned Augur Mines. Scattered across Kairos, these unique mines feature distinct bosses and exclusive legendary loot, making them excellent farming spots for dedicated players.
Accessing the Abandoned Augur Mines
You might have stumbled upon an Abandoned Augur Mine only to find it inaccessible. This isn’t a game oversight; players need special permission to enter these mines, similar to the requirements for accessing Order Bunkers.
To unlock these mines, advance through the story in the Terminus Range area, located in the eastern part of Kairos. Here, you will encounter an NPC named Defiant Calder who plays a key role in your progression. Once accepted into the Clave, all Abandoned Augur Mines become readily accessible.

Coastal Bonescrape
The Fadefields feature two Abandoned Augur Mines, the first of which is conveniently located near your initial landing zone on Kairos. Navigate to the Coastal Bonescrape area, heading north from the Abandoned Post Safehouse, which is your starting safehouse in the campaign.
As you proceed north, keep an eye out for large bone structures, which will mark the cave entrance leading to the Augur Mine. Prepare for a showdown with the boss known as Quake Thresher.
The Claim
Dissected Plateau
The second Augur Mine in the Fadefields, dubbed The Claim, is situated in the Dissected Plateau region. It’s conveniently located near the fast travel station at Zadra’s Backup Plan, so I recommend unlocking this station early in your journey.
To find the mine, access Zadra’s Lab cave system, and you will notice the entrance is near the lab itself. Here, you’ll face off against the formidable Backhive, a massive creature that unleashes smaller beasts during the fight.
Whistler’s Maw
Cuspid Climb
Transitioning to the Terminus Range, the first Abandoned Augur Mine you’ll encounter is Whistler’s Maw, which lies within the Cuspid Climb section. You can find its entrance to the west of the platform used for acquiring the Vault Key Fragment.
I suggest starting from the Order Silo known as The Reliquary and heading north. This route will conveniently position you close to the mine’s entrance, where you will take on Shadowpelt.
Bittervein
Stoneblood Forest
The next mine, known as Bittervein, is found in the northern sector of the Stoneblood Forest within Terminus Range. To reach this mine, head northwest as if you’re heading to the Order Outpost located on the western edge of Stoneblood Forest.
Cross the river to the northeast where you will discover a pathway leading directly to the Abandoned Augur Mine. Prepare yourself to battle the boss named Bramblesong.
Trinket Crevass
Ruined Sumplands
Located on the western edge of the Ruined Sumplands in the Carcadia Burn region, Trinket Crevass is another Abandoned Augur Mine worth exploring. The quickest access points to this area are either heading north from Moxxi’s Bottoms Up or heading southwest from the Wildhorn’s Beard Safehouse situated in the northern part of the area.
The mine is nestled at the base of a cliff’s northern face. To enter, either drop down from above or drive down the slope. Gear up for a showdown with the boss Rocken Roller at the end of the mine.
Embossed Fault
Grindstone of the Worthy
The Embossed Fault mine is situated in the southern area of the Grindstone of the Worthy section within Carcadia Burn. To find this mine, make your way to the Makeshift Chalet Safehouse, then travel east and follow the path leading northeast.
Tucked away in the cliffs south of the Rustical Hurl Order Silo, you will confront the boss Skull Orchid at the conclusion of this mine exploration.
The Toil of Spoiling Vis
Carcadia District of Dominion City
Lastly, The Toil of Spoiling Vis is located within the Carcadia District of Dominion City. This mine’s entrance can be a bit deceiving.
Start your journey at the Final Defiance fast travel point, then navigate into the city while keeping to the left side. You will spot a door that opens as you approach it, granting access to the mine.
Avoid the tempting but misleading blown-open entrance in the city wall. Once you make it through the mine, you will face off against the boss Axemaul.
