DDR5 RAM Prices Drop in Japan: 64GB Kits Now Under $489 for the First Time in Four Months

In the current market, finding a 64 GB RAM kit priced under $500 may seem nearly impossible; however, some retailers in Japan have surprisingly managed to offer these kits at such affordable rates.

Significant Price Drop in DDR5 RAM Kits in Japan

As of mid-April, a notable drop in the prices of various DDR5 RAM kits has been observed in Japan, making them significantly more budget-friendly than in previous months. Many consumers have eagerly awaited such reductions, though price fluctuations often lead to quick increases shortly after a drop. Currently, prices for certain RAM kits are at their lowest when compared to the trends over the past four months.

According to analysis from AKIBA PC, this affordability comes despite prices remaining significantly higher than last year. Even a modest reduction of around 10% is regarded as a hopeful sign amid the market’s volatility. It is particularly noteworthy that a 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-4800 RAM kit has now dropped below 80, 000 Yen (approximately US$489), reflecting a 21.8% decrease compared to last month. In most global markets, such a competitive price for a 64 GB DDR5 desktop RAM kit is rare, with typical pricing exceeding $800.

At the $400 to $500 price range, consumers can generally expect to purchase a 32 GB DDR5 RAM kit, which is markedly higher than last year’s typical pricing. Furthermore, several 64 GB DDR5 RAM kits, including those rated at DDR5-5600, 6000, and 6400, are still seeing about a 10% price reduction, although they often remain above 80, 000 Yen, making it challenging to find them below the 100, 000 Yen threshold.

For those considering smaller capacity options, a 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 RAM kit is now available for under 50, 000 Yen (currently 47, 980 Yen or US$301), previously priced closer to 60, 000 Yen, which represents a significant price cut of nearly 20%.

High-performance kits, such as the Kingston Fury 16 GB x2 DDR5-7200, have also seen a 16% price reduction, now retailing at 58, 980 Yen (about US$370).Additionally, various 32 GB and 48 GB DDR5 kits are showing discounts nearing 10%. Meanwhile, prices for SO-DIMM and DDR4 memory are at all-time lows in comparison to previous months. Nonetheless, the stability of these price drops remains uncertain due to the market’s inherent volatility, which has led to quick price rebounds in numerous regions.
