Could MJF show up at WrestleMania 40 and confront The Rock following recent online spat?
It appears that former AEW World Champion MJF has some issues with The Rock, as he gears up to take on his former adversary Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. The New York native was left perplexed when The Brahma Bull expressed interest in purchasing art from his former fiancée, Naomi Rosenblum.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman playfully insinuated that The Great One had been copying his notion of publicly criticizing the former AEW Executive Vice President. He also expressed discontent with the 51-year-old reaching out to his former partner and requested that the eight-time WWE Champion refrain from interfering in his personal affairs.
“First you steal my glorious idea to lash Cody. Now you try to cop art from my ex. I’m a fan. But please Leave me be, Dewey.”
Unfortunately, fans who were anticipating MJF’s appearance at WrestleMania will be let down. According to reports, the 28-year-old will not make his WWE debut at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Additionally, according to reports, the four-time Dynamite Diamond Ring champion is still a part of AEW. Despite being sidelined with multiple injuries, including a torn labrum suffered during his loss of the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe in December, he remains with the company.
The Rock’s attack on Rhodes was a result of their verbal feud at the WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press event. In the future, if MJF were to sign with the Stamford-based company, The Rock may keep a watchful eye on him and potentially go after the outspoken New Yorker.
MJF’s Potential to Rise to The Rock’s Status as a WrestleMania Headliner
During his tenure at AEW, MJF’s stock has greatly increased as he rose to become the company’s leading figure last year. He holds the record for the longest reign as AEW World Champion, with a total of 406 days.
Ever since The Salt of the Earth’s meteoric rise to the main event, fans have been astounded. His feud with WWE legend Chris Jericho in 2021 played a significant role in his journey, as he had the opportunity to work with someone who had been a rival to The Rock during the Attitude Era.
The first-ever World Champion of AEW expressed his admiration for MJF during an interview with Busted Open Radio in May 2021. He drew comparisons between his former Inner Circle teammate and The Great One.
“It (feuding with MJF) reminds me a lot of when I was working with The Rock. It was very hard to combat him on the microphone because he was that good but if you could do that, you’ve struck gold and that’s one of the reasons why the segments I’ve had with The Rock on the stick were always very classic because you had a great babyface and a great heel. Despite his undeniable talent in the ring, Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s exceptional microphone skills have often overshadowed his versatility as a performer. He has successfully portrayed both a villainous heel and a confident babyface, much to the delight of his fans.
It appears that the AEW star may be making the jump to WWE in the near future, possibly even for WrestleMania 40. It seems likely that this could be in his future, and if he continues to excel in Tony Khan’s Jacksonville-based company and decides to make the move, he could potentially even headline ‘Mania.
