Cody Rhodes reveals which matches he’s most excited about at WrestleMania 40

WWE’s highly anticipated 40th annual WrestleMania event is only a few days away. Cody Rhodes has been confirmed to participate in matches on both nights, and he has recently shared intriguing thoughts about two specific bouts in the event.

The American Nightmare, along with Seth Rollins, is set to face off against The Bloodline’s The Rock and Roman Reigns on the first night of WrestleMania. The subsequent evening, Rhodes will make another attempt at concluding his journey by defeating Reigns and claiming the title of Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. As of now, WWE has revealed a total of 13 matches for this weekend’s WrestleMania event, featuring a variety of championship matches and unique gimmick bouts.

During an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the former AEW EVP was questioned about which match on Night One or Night Two he is most excited to see as a fan. Rhodes selected the Becky Lynch vs. Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and Sami Zayn vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther matches. He commended The Ring General for his ongoing improvement.

“GUNTHER is the type of wrestler that I want to wrestle, and test myself against, and I am… at all times impressed by his continued growth. You think he’s amazing now? He’s only getting better. He continues to get in better shape. I know there are people who effort shame, but it’s a vanity business… it’s part of it. He gets in great shape, and everything in the ring is crisper, and he’s just meaner, and badder, just a true bruiser. So, I just have such an appreciation for that,”Cody Rhodes said.

Rhodes went on to commend GUNTHER’s opponent, stating that Sami Zayn consistently refuses to be anything less than captivating in his career. He also praised Zayn as one of the most exceptional performers out there. Cody then explained his excitement for the upcoming match between The Man and The Eradicator.

“Fans might have… forgotten just how unbelievable Becky Lynch and The Man is, because I watched from afar, I watched from the indies and other companies when The Man was happening… the blood, the whole deal, nobody was catching on with fans in an organic way like that. Nobody… no male, no female, it was Becky. I just think she’s bringing it with extra, extra fire,”Cody Rhodes said.

Both Zayn vs. GUNTHER and Lynch vs. Ripley are set to take place on Night One of WrestleMania XL, which is happening this Saturday.

Cody Rhodes’ WWE Rivalry and Focus on a Specific Superstar

Ricochet is widely regarded as one of the top professional wrestlers in the industry today. The WWE Superstar consistently receives praise from his peers, including those from the competing organization AEW.

During his appearance on The MMA Hour, Cody Rhodes revealed that Ricochet is the one superstar he is closely monitoring.

“I also love what Ricochet is has been doing lately. So, I’m following him and keeping my eyes on him,”Cody Rhodes said.

In both 2017 and 2023, The American Nightmare and The Highlight Of The Night joined forces for tag team matches at NJPW and WWE events. Their initial encounter for a singles title took place in 2017, with Rhodes successfully defending the WCPW Internet Championship. In their final singles match that year, Cody once again retained his title, this time the NEW Heavyweight Championship.
