Tim Cook Attends Melania Trump’s Movie Screening Amidst Declining Apple Services Revenue Due to EU Pressure

Amidst growing challenges from the European Union, Apple is seeking to solidify its relationship with the U. S.administration, particularly during a contentious period for the tech giant. With the EU’s regulatory pressures already impacting its revenue streams, Tim Cook’s attendance at a VIP screening of Melania Trump’s movie appears to be a strategic move to strengthen ties with President Trump.

Tim Cook Looks to Strengthen Relationships as Apple Navigates EU Challenges

Recently, Tim Cook participated in the exclusive screening of the Amazon-backed film “Melania, ”scheduled for official release at the Kennedy Center. This decision underscores Apple’s desperate need for the administration’s backing amidst turbulent times due to regulatory scrutiny from the EU.

Data from Jefferies highlights that Apple’s App Store revenue has been sluggish, experiencing only a 7% growth in the last quarter, marking the slowest increase seen in nearly two years. This financial strain exemplifies the urgency behind Cook’s attendance at the event.

In a shake-up to its operational practices, Apple has permitted third-party app stores to function after the EU’s implementation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in 2024. However, compliance has been contentious, particularly regarding Apple’s anti-steering rules that restrict developers from promoting alternative purchasing options. This non-compliance led to a hefty fine of EUR 500 million imposed by the European Commission (EC) in April 2025.

Despite altering its revenue-sharing models in June 2025, Apple has argued that the EC has not granted the requested adjustments, leading to accusations of politically motivated delays against the tech giant. The company’s representatives assert that these tactics are designed to unfairly burden an American corporation with excessive investigations and fines.

In light of these developments, it is understandable that Tim Cook would seek to avoid political friction and garner support from the Trump administration. Given the favorable impact of similar efforts previously—such as receiving a reprieve from potential tariffs—Cook’s approach demonstrates his strategic pragmatism in navigating a tumultuous regulatory landscape.
