SK hynix Addresses Consumer Business Exit Rumors While DRAM Supply Situation Worsens Over Time

SK hynix has officially addressed the circulating rumors regarding its potential exit from the consumer market, affirming that it currently has no intentions of such a move.

SK hynix Continues to Meet Consumer Demand via OEM Channels Amid AI Challenges

SK hynix is not considering discontinuing its consumer business.

Recent trends indicate a sharp increase in demand from the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Nevertheless, major players like AMD and Intel, along with their associated AIB (Add-In Board) partners, continue to report robust demand for DRAM products. Notably, the consumer segment of the market is expected to maintain its momentum for the foreseeable future.

In discussions with Micron, it became clear that memory manufacturers are increasingly focused on the lucrative AI segment. This shift is largely driven by the rapidly expanding Total Addressable Market (TAM) and the higher profit margins associated with advanced products like High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) compared to standard DRAM offerings. Despite this shift in focus, these suppliers are reluctant to abandon their consumer operations entirely. However, the challenge lies in striking a balance between servicing consumer demand and meeting the growing needs of the AI market, particularly in light of current supply chain uncertainties.

Observing how the memory market develops in the coming months will be crucial, especially given that the demand for DRAM from AI applications shows no signs of abating.
