Isabela Merced to Lead SEGA’s Film Adaptation of The House of the Dead
Isabela Merced, known for her roles as Dina in HBO’s The Last of Us and Hawkgirl in James Gunn’s latest Superman film, is set to star in SEGA’s highly anticipated adaptation of its classic zombie title, The House of the Dead.
Production Details and Creative Team
According to a recent article by Deadline, Paul W. S.Anderson, a veteran of the horror genre known for his work on the Resident Evil franchise, will direct and co-write the film. His expertise in crafting compelling narratives within a gore-filled universe positions him as an excellent choice for this project.
SEGA’s Vision for the Franchise
SEGA has indicated that this adaptation is a “top priority“for the company, aiming to create an engaging and successful franchise reminiscent of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. They envision a “fresh take“on the beloved zombie franchise that will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.
“The House of the Dead is a game I have loved for many years, ”said Anderson, “and I’m beyond thrilled to be bringing this to the big screen with an exciting talent as Isabela at its heart. We envisage this as the start of a tentpole franchise which can explore the rich world and lore that SEGA has created over a whole series of films.”
Enthusiastic Collaborations
SEGA’s executive and producer, Toru Nakahara, expressed his excitement, stating, “Working with Isabela is a thrilling opportunity as she embodies the heroine character perfectly, bringing dynamic energy to the production.”This collaboration underscores the industry’s focus on casting talent that resonates with the character’s essence.
Additionally, Story Kitchen, a production company engaged in various video game adaptations—including Amazon’s forthcoming Tomb Raider series—shared their enthusiasm for the project. They expressed their anticipation in uniting Merced, Anderson, and other talented professionals alongside their partners at Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance, heralding a “truly iconic property.”
Looking Ahead
While The House of the Dead production is still in its nascent stages, audiences may need to wait some time before they can see Merced in action as the heroine. In the interim, if HBO’s Casey Bloys is correct in his projections regarding the future of The Last of Us, Merced’s schedule may soon become more accommodating.
Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting project continues to develop!
