Microsoft has recently validated its ongoing testing of a new voice command, “Bye, ”for the Microsoft 365 Copilot integrated into Windows 11. This functionality is particularly noteworthy given that Microsoft 365 Copilot is automatically available on every PC, independent of a subscription status. Additionally, plans are in motion to extend the Copilot experience to Google Chrome via an upcoming extension.
Currently, users initiate interactions with Copilot using the phrase “Hey Copilot, ”but terminating a session requires manual intervention—specifically, dragging the cursor to hit the ‘X’ button. This limitation is poised to be addressed with the introduction of the new command.

In an update featured on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the tech giant confirmed its intention to implement the “Bye”command within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Although this feature is initially limited to the Copilot application designed for professional use rather than general consumers, it is anticipated that similar voice commands will soon be adopted throughout the Windows operating system. This would enable users to easily exit conversation modes with Copilot by saying, “Bye Copilot.”
According to Microsoft’s roadmap update, “Now users can close a voice session on Windows by simply saying bye or goodbye when they want to close the voice session.” This change aims to enhance the user experience by providing an efficient method to disengage from voice interactions.
Importantly, the introduction of this feature extends beyond mere convenience; Microsoft envisions it as part of a comprehensive “hands-free”experience that will redefine how users interact with AI on Windows. This initiative is aligned with their broader objective of evolving Windows into a more autonomous operating system.
“This, paired with ‘Hey Copilot’ wake word, provides users with a completely hands-free experience for voice interactions in Microsoft 365 Copilot on Windows devices, ” Microsoft elaborated.
The rollout for the “Bye Copilot”feature is set to commence in December 2025 for all PCs equipped with the Copilot application and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Notably, users will not need a subscription to utilize this new voice command.
Envisioning the Future Landscape of Windows
As we explore this development, it’s interesting to contemplate what the future holds for the Windows operating system.

In the near future, users will have the ability to vocalize “Hey Copilot”to activate Copilot, facilitating a dialogue that allows for the execution of Copilot Actions. These actions will enable users to handle tasks directly on their PC by interacting with personal files and folders, concluding with the simple command, “Goodbye.”
Microsoft 365 Copilot’s Expansion into Google Chrome
For those interested in utilizing Copilot within the Google Chrome browser, initial access will be through a web version, which may not deliver an optimal experience.
Microsoft is actively developing a new extension named ‘Microsoft 365 Copilot’ for Chrome, integrating features like Copilot Chat and Copilot Search directly within the browser framework.
It remains unclear whether this extension will plug into the browser’s address bar or if it will alter default search settings, as seen in previous Microsoft extensions. Nonetheless, users will be able to access Copilot chat via the extension menu, and organizational users should be able to access enterprise-level content within the extension as well.
Initially, the capabilities of the Copilot Chrome extension will focus on querying information, summarizing web pages, and enabling AI-driven searches. These functionalities indicate that the extension may require read access to the websites viewed, although it remains uncertain whether it will demand access to browsing history.
