Microsoft Announces New Windows 11 Compact Taskbar Similar to Windows 10 Movement Features

Microsoft is set to adopt a fresh strategy by releasing substantial fixes for Windows 11 on a monthly basis. Among these updates is an anticipated return of a Windows 10-like compact taskbar, which will offer users varied size options.

Currently, customization options for the taskbar in Windows 11 are quite limited. Users cannot adjust the size of the taskbar, especially noticeable on smaller screens. Individuals utilizing high-resolution devices may not experience this issue, but those with 14-inch laptops often find the standard taskbar overly large and cumbersome. Unfortunately, options to modify its height are not available at the moment.

At present, the only way to customize the Windows 11 taskbar is through third-party applications. However, reports from Windows Latest suggest that this limitation may soon change, bringing relief to users seeking greater flexibility.

A recent inquiry on X (formerly Twitter) posed by a user to Pavan Davuluri, the head of Windows at Microsoft, urged the company to consider reintroducing the ‘short taskbar’ option. Many users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the current “jumbo taskbar, ” arguing that it is only beneficial for tablet users. Notably, even Windows 8 allowed users to choose between a compact or slimmer taskbar.

Pavan Davuluri replied to the suggestion, indicating that Microsoft is exploring options to enhance taskbar customization. His response has sparked optimism among users, demonstrating that the company values consumer feedback. Davuluri stated, “This is something we’re looking at implementing, ” highlighting a commitment to user preferences.

Upon consulting Microsoft for further information, it was revealed that the planned taskbar adjustments would resemble features from Windows 10, though further details on the extent of these similarities remain unclear.

Taskbar Customization: A Comparison between Windows 10 and Windows 11

In Windows 10, users could easily adjust their taskbar settings by navigating to Settings > Taskbar, where they would find a simple toggle to enable small taskbar buttons. This functionality is lacking in Windows 11, where the toggle is present but does not actually reduce the taskbar’s height.

Curious users can verify this by navigating to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and toggling the option for smaller taskbar buttons. While the icons may shrink, the physical size of the taskbar remains unchanged, leading to frustration among those transitioning from Windows 10.
