Recent information indicates that Intel is on the verge of revealing critical insights into Elon Musk’s Terafab chipmaking initiative, which promises to transform the tech landscape.
Intel Prepares to Unveil Elon Musk’s Terafab Project in Weeks
According to Dylan Martin from CRN, Intel is gearing up to disclose significant details regarding its collaboration with Elon Musk on the Terafab project, which aims to advance chip manufacturing.
Intel plans to disclose to staff the “scope and nature” of its involvement with Elon Musk’s ambitious “Terafab” chip manufacturing project in the “coming weeks, ” according to a memo its CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, sent last week.
Tan sent the memo, which was seen by CRN, to Intel employees last Friday, two days after the semiconductor giant announced its involvement with Musk’s companies—SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla—on Terafab, a potential boon to Intel amid its latest turnaround attempt.

Intel’s CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, has circulated an internal memo outlining the intention to share the “scope and nature”of the Terafab project soon, a disclosure that many stakeholders are eagerly awaiting due to the project’s ambitious nature.
The Terafab initiative is structured into two key phases. The initial phase focuses on constructing facilities dedicated to the manufacturing of automotive and robotics chips, while the subsequent stage aims to produce chips tailored for artificial intelligence applications. Notably, Tesla has recently introduced its cutting-edge A15 chip, designed to rival NVIDIA’s Hopper and Blackwell products. The company is also developing the next-generation A16 chip alongside the Dojo3 Supercomputer project. While the A15 is currently in production at TSMC and Samsung, Tesla’s objective is to transition manufacturing to Terafab once operational.
Intel is proud to join the Terafab project with @SpaceX, @xAI, and @Tesla to help refactor silicon fab technology. The collaboration between Intel and Musk’s ventures signifies a strategic pivot for Intel, seeking to regain its position in the semiconductor industry. This partnership comes alongside Intel’s initiatives to boost its Intel Foundry efforts, with ambitions to attract significant collaborations, including with industry giant NVIDIA.
Recent discussions suggest that while NVIDIA may contribute some production to Intel’s foundries, the Terafab project will likely focus exclusively on chip production for Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. During its initial operations, Terafab is projected to produce approximately 3, 000 wafers per month by 2029, with plans to gradually expand output as the project progresses.
Terafab’s capabilities aim to revolutionize silicon logic, memory, and packaging within the manufacturing process, as highlighted by CRN. Intel’s upcoming updates on this transformative initiative are keenly anticipated by tech enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.
