The Burning Springs expansion for Fallout 76 introduces players to an extended area of the game map, uncovering a portion of post-apocalyptic Ohio. This update enriches the game’s open-world environment, inviting players to explore the new content at no extra cost, thanks to its status as a free expansion.
Accompanying this new territory is a dedicated questline. For those eager to dive into the offerings of the Ohio Wasteland within Fallout 76, here’s a guide on what to expect and the steps to take to embark on this adventure.
Exploring the Welcoming Committee Quest

To kick off the Burning Springs update, players will undertake the Welcoming Committee quest, which should automatically be added to your quest log upon launching the game. If it doesn’t appear, consider leveling up your character first to meet any prerequisites.

During the Welcoming Committee quest, you’ll be tasked with investigating an emergency broadcast. Access your Pip-Boy and tune into the Ohio Distress Broadcast station to hear a distressing message from a woman in peril. After the message concludes, make your way to Point Pleasant, which is located directly east of Vault 76. This area is also notable for the presence of Mothman Eggs in Fallout 76.
Although engaging with the Welcoming Committee quest is the recommended route, players can still reach Burning Springs without it. However, preparing your character with adequate levels and skill sets may enhance your experience.
Unlike earlier expansions that featured remote locations, Burning Springs integrates smoothly with the familiar landscape of the Appalachian Wasteland. Simply cross the bridge at Point Pleasant to step into what remains of Ohio in Fallout 76.

Continue down the road until you encounter a fortified checkpoint manned by raiders. Clear this area to proceed to the nearby observation tower where you’ll find Ava, the woman from the broadcast.

Upon speaking to Ava, you’ll be betrayed and imprisoned. Interact with Eugene, a fellow captive, to understand your situation. Subsequently, converse with Silas in the neighboring cell. After your discussions, guards will release you all.

Make your way to the stage to confront the Rust King, a Super Mutant who commands the local raider faction known as the Rust Kingdom. He will allow your escape on the condition that you eliminate Silas.
Choosing Between Silas and Eugene

Your alliance choice at this juncture doesn’t alter the outcome significantly, as Silas will meet his end regardless of who you support. If you side with Eugene, Silas will turn hostile, presenting an opportunity for you to dispatch him as you wish. Conversely, siding with Silas will summon waves of enemies, leading to his inevitable demise.
For a practical approach, teaming up with Eugene might conserve your ammunition, especially for those relying on ranged combat, though melee players might prefer a different strategy.

Following the confrontation, return to the Rust King. He will have one of his henchmen incapacitate you. Upon regaining consciousness, you’ll find yourself in the Ohio Wasteland, ready to head towards Highway Town to continue your journey through the Burning Springs questline.
