Taemin Makes History at Coachella 2026 with Groundbreaking Solo Performance

On April 11, former SHINee member Taemin etched his name in history as he became the first Korean male solo artist to grace the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with a solo performance. During his 50-minute set, Taemin unveiled six new, unreleased songs, captivating audiences with his dynamic stage presence.

A Stellar Performance in the Mojave Desert

The talented artist, now 32 years old, took to the Mojave Stage in Indio, California, at 7:30 p.m.local time. With the support of a live band and a full ensemble of dancers, Taemin captivated the crowd right from the start. An engaging introductory video set the tone for the performance, which opened with “Sexy in the Air, ” immediately followed by his 2017 hit “WANT.”

Exciting New Music and Fan Favorites

As the stage lit up with a vibrant backdrop reading “Taeminella, ”the artist addressed the crowd, expressing his excitement: “Hello, Coachella! My name is Taemin, and I’m thrilled to see you all here, ”a sentiment highlighted by Forbes.

Throughout his electrifying set, Taemin showcased live renditions of beloved tracks such as “MOVE, ””Guilty, ””Advice, ”and “IDEA.”A standout moment came when he performed “Heaven, ” a favorite from 2020, followed by a poignant performance at a grand piano, where he teased one of his new songs, demonstrating his impressive vocal abilities.

Speculations and Insights into New Tracks

The new material garnered considerable buzz online, particularly regarding one song that featured the provocative lyrics, “You’re blowing my cash and flexing my name, you’re a fucking parasite.”Fans speculated that these lines might hint at his recent split from Big Planet Made Entertainment, following his departure from the agency in February 2026 due to disputes over financial settlements, as reported by Allkpop.

A Memorable Finale and Technical Snags

During a costume change, the band provided a lively freestyle interlude. Taemin then returned to the stage for an exhilarating finale featuring three additional new songs, including one reminiscent of his SHINee roots and a soulful piano ballad. At the end of his set, he engaged the audience with the question, “How do you like my new songs?”suggesting that a formal release could be on the horizon.

Despite some technical issues during the livestream, where the feed experienced an eight-second cut and sound disruptions for approximately a minute, fans expressed their overall admiration for his performance, although some were understandably disappointed.

New Beginnings with Galaxy Corporation

Currently, Taemin is signed with Galaxy Corporation, an innovative AI entertainment technology firm, also known for representing K-pop icon G-Dragon. His career trajectory includes a long stint with SM Entertainment, later transitioning to Big Planet Made Entertainment in 2024 before his recent move to Galaxy.

In the weeks leading up to Coachella, Taemin released “Long Way Home, ”his first single in English, on March 27. This pop and R&B track, co-written with Ben Parris and Coreylon Lindsay-Keay, was also showcased at a pre-festival event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, as reported by Chosun.
