ASUS has initiated an internal review in response to recent concerns about the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU failures on its AM5 800-series motherboards.
Official ASUS Response to AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Issues
Reports have emerged highlighting failures in ASUS X870E and X870 motherboards, particularly affecting the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs. Users across various platforms, including Reddit, continue to share their experiences with AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs, notably the 9800X3D, encountering difficulties when paired with ASUS’s 800-series motherboards.
In their initial statement, ASUS confirmed they are investigating these issues thoroughly. While this review is underway, ASUS urges all users to update their motherboards to the latest BIOS version to promote stable performance. For users who have experienced problems, ASUS has provided information on how to reach their customer support, detailed in the official statement below:

ASUS is not the only manufacturer encountering challenges with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D; ASRock has also been under scrutiny for several months. Since the launch of the 9800X3D, numerous reports have surfaced about AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPUs failing on ASRock’s 800-series motherboards, especially the high-end X870E and X870 models. In our own evaluations, we have been unable to replicate the reported issues, yet we acknowledge the validity of user experiences as many have documented physical evidence of CPU failures, including burn marks on the sockets and visible CPU bulging.

The root cause of these failures remains unclear. Initial reports associated similar issues with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, linked to ASUS 600-series motherboards, with concerns regarding SoC voltages. Although motherboard manufacturers have rolled out updates to manage voltage spikes, the effectiveness of these fixes is still in question.
This situation could suggest that users may not be running the latest BIOS that resolves voltage issues or indicate potential problems on either the motherboard or the CPUs themselves. Notably, the failure rates are reported to be lower when compared to Intel’s 13th and 14th-generation processors. Moreover, the warranty process for AMD CPUs is notably efficient, allowing users to secure replacements swiftly, with motherboard vendors also responsive to customer needs for replacements.
