Apple Enhances Next-Gen AirPods Pro with Camera to Compete Against Meta in Wearable Technology

Apple is gearing up to enhance its upcoming lineup of devices, notably the next iteration of AirPods Pro, by integrating a camera that could bring advanced AI capabilities. This strategic move aims to challenge Meta’s growing presence in the wearable AI market.

Apple’s Upcoming AirPods Pro May Feature Innovative Camera Technology

Renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reveals that significant efforts are underway to innovate the AirPods Pro design, with plans to incorporate camera technology into the earbuds.

According to Gurman, these next-generation AirPods Pro might be unveiled as soon as this year, complementing a trio of AI-enhanced devices, which also includes smart glasses and an AI pendant. This initiative is part of Apple’s response to Meta’s early foothold with its Ray-Ban smart glasses.

In addition, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo hinted as early as 2024 regarding the development of IR camera-equipped AirPods Pro, suggesting that Apple has been working on this technology for some time.

Furthermore, a patent granted to Apple in July 2025 details the use of camera technology for proximity detection and 3D depth mapping, leveraging features reminiscent of Face ID. These functionalities have intriguing implications for the anticipated earbuds.

Recent speculation links Apple’s acquisition of Q.ai with the anticipated IR features in the new AirPods Pro. The theory posits that the inclusion of an IR camera would enable the earbuds to recognize subtle user gestures or vocalizations, such as whispered speech, by analyzing micro-movements in the user’s face with the help of Q.ai technology.

As Apple continues to innovate in the AI wearable space, the forthcoming AirPods Pro are poised to make a significant impact, potentially setting new standards in functionality and design.
