AMD, much like its rival NVIDIA, is set to place a significant emphasis on 8 GB Radeon GPUs, which will encompass selections from its older generations as well.
AMD’s Shift to 8 GB GPUs: RX 9060 XT and RX 7650 GRE are in Focus Amid Upcoming Price Hikes
Consumers may soon feel the impact of rising prices for AMD graphics cards. Reports have surfaced indicating that AMD’s board partners are planning a second price increase shortly. Following an initial hike of 5-10% that was enacted in January, another bump in prices is anticipated either this month or shortly thereafter. This trend will further escalate the costs associated with RX 9000 series GPUs, complicating affordability for gamers.

According to insights shared by Board Channels, the impending price adjustments are intended to align AMD’s offerings with competing products from NVIDIA. Should this adjustment occur, we could witness significant price surges for GPUs like the RX 9060 XT and RX 9070/XT. Today’s market has already reached perplexing heights, exemplified by the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB approaching a staggering $700. In contrast, the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB can currently be found for a more accessible $400-$500 at various online retailers, but this balance may soon shift as AMD’s rumored strategies come into play.
The surge in DRAM prices has made it increasingly challenging for both AMD and NVIDIA to maintain pricing near the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).With DRAM prices reportedly quadrupling, both companies appear to be focusing their resources on producing 8 GB GPUs. While similar prioritization has been noted for NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series, AMD is expected to adopt a parallel strategy, shifting their focus toward selling a greater number of 8 GB graphics cards, which includes not only their current RDNA 4 series but also older models.

Anticipations are growing around AMD’s commitment to the Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB and the RDNA 3-based Radeon RX 7650 GRE, which was initially exclusive to the Chinese market. Currently priced under $400 on platforms like Amazon and Newegg, if the RX 9060 XT 8 GB follows suit with an uptick in pricing, it is likely to approach the $400 mark as well in the near future.
