CM Punk reveals original plan for him to main event WrestleMania before heartbreaking injury

Prior to his injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble, CM Punk revealed the initial arrangements for WWE WrestleMania. Although currently sidelined with a torn triceps, Punk will make an appearance as the special guest commentator at WrestleMania XL.

The veteran made an appearance on today’s episode of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, where he talked about his comeback to the promotion. He mentioned that he is feeling even better than initially anticipated after his injury and revealed that he was set to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at The Show of Shows. He confidently stated that he believed this match would have been the main event of Night 1 at WrestleMania XL.

“The plan I think was going to be me and Seth (Rollins). I believe so (on it main eventing Night 1), but again, I came in and said ‘I’m not asking questions. You’re the boss,’”he said.

Helwani inquired about Punk’s thoughts on potentially battling Rollins at WrestleMania, to which the veteran acknowledged the history between the two stars and stated that he would have been content with the matchup.

“Me and Seth? Yeah. There is history there. There is a story there,”he added.

CM Punk’s Unapologetic Approach to WWE: No Friends, Just Success

CM Punk expressed that his return to WWE last year on RAW was not for the purpose of making friends, but to make money. He continues to hold this belief today.

During his interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the RAW wrestler was questioned about his partnership with Roman Reigns and he stated that it was strictly professional. Punk emphasized his goal of making money, while also acknowledging that it is common to develop friendships with those you work with to achieve that goal.

“I am not here to make friends. If I have some friends from my prior ten years in the company, awesome. If I make some friends along the way, that is just sprinkles on top of a cupcake. I’m here to do business and make money. But the ironic thing about that is you wind up becoming friends with the people you make money with,”said CM Punk.

Ever since his comeback to the wrestling scene in 2021, CM Punk has mesmerized fans and competitors alike. It remains to be seen when the ex-AEW Champion will receive medical clearance to step back into the ring.
