After being separated for a period of time, Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley Bennett have officially announced their divorce. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, shared a joint statement on April 3 on their Instagram stories, revealing their mutual decision to end their five-year marriage.

The statement was read as follows:

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”

The rapper from Chicago and Bennett also promised their followers that they will continue to co-parent their two daughters.

“God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together.”

It appears that Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley Bennett had a fairytale-like love story that began when they were both nine years old.

According to a thread on X that the rapper shared in March 2019, he disclosed that they had met at his moms’ office Christmas party one day before their wedding.

Chance the Rapper stated that from the moment he saw her perform a Destiny’s Child dance routine, he was certain that she was the one he would marry.

His tweet read:

“I saw her dancing and I was like, ‘Let’s get married!’”

According to Chance’s manager, although it is uncertain if they kept in contact, they officially began dating in early 2013.

During a 2013 interview with Oyster magazine, the rapper stated that he and Corley had been in a relationship for “years and years and years.”However, his manager, Pat Corcoran, corrected him and clarified that they had only been together for six months.

In 2015, the couple was overjoyed to welcome their first daughter, Kensli. However, their happiness was short-lived as Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley Bennett separated in 2016, leading to a legal dispute over custody and child support for their daughter.

In March 2017, Chance and Corley resolved their disagreement outside of court and reconciled. The couple then became engaged in July 2018.

According to the Chicago Tribute, the couple had a secret civil ceremony at the Cook County clerk’s office on Dec. 27, 2018, before officially tying the knot on March 9, 2019 at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California.

Chance and Corley’s second daughter, Marli, was born not long after their wedding.

The rapper’s marriage has been a significant factor in his music, with Chance often incorporating elements of his relationship into his art. According to reports, his wedding was a major source of inspiration for his album The Big Day.
