Blip: The Quickest Solution for Unlimited File Transfers Across Various Platforms

File sharing across different devices should be seamless, yet many existing solutions are either cumbersome, restricted by platform, or just painfully slow. Luckily, I recently discovered a remarkable free application that addresses these common obstacles, offering an exceptionally fast and hassle-free file transfer experience. This application is known as Blip, and here’s what sets it apart.

Why Blip Stands Out in File Sharing

With countless file-sharing applications available, you may question why Blip deserves your attention. Firstly, it supports all major platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS, making it universally accessible.

The complexities of cross-platform file sharing, especially between Android and Mac or between Windows and iOS, are often unnecessary. Blip simplifies this process with a straightforward setup across all operating systems—no account creation or extra passwords needed. Simply install the app, provide your email, create an ID, and you’re all set.

One of Blip’s significant benefits is its ability to transfer files without requiring devices to be on the same network or in close proximity, overcoming a common limitation of many existing solutions.

For those concerned about privacy, Blip employs TLS 1.3 encryption—the same technology that secures many websites—ensuring that your data remains protected from third parties during transfer.

Blip is genuinely one of the fastest file transfer applications I have encountered. According to its developers, it can achieve multi-gigabit speeds, even over considerable distances. Unlike many traditional file transfer services, Blip sends files in real time without uploading them to the web.

Transfer speeds will depend on the sender’s upload rate and the recipient’s download speed; however, when both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, you’ll experience even faster results.

Additionally, Blip imposes no limitations on file sizes, allowing you to send even your largest files without concern.

Sending Files Made Easy

Once you have Blip installed, you’ll need to know the recipient’s ID or email address to transfer files. Use the search bar located at the top-right corner for PC and iOS, or the upper right for Android, to locate the desired contact.

Including a profile picture can help identify your contacts easily, so consider adding one for yourself.

Once you’ve identified the right person, simply tap or click on their profile. On PC, you can transfer files and folders (no zipping needed) by dragging and dropping them. Alternatively, right-click the selected file and choose the Blip option from the context menu.

The mobile apps allow sending Photos and Videos from your device, Taking & Sending a Photo or Video directly from the camera, or sharing Files & Folders.iPhone users can also Scan & Send Documents, while Android users can share Audio files right away.

After selecting the files, Blip immediately initiates the transfer. On the recipient’s device, a popup (PC) or notification (mobile) will prompt them to either accept or decline the incoming files. If the sender is unrecognized, it is advisable to decline the transfer.

However, if you are transferring files between your own devices, you can choose to enable the Auto-accept feature through Settings, eliminating those prompts entirely.

Once files have been exchanged with a device, it will be added to Blip, allowing for easy future transfers without the need for another search. On mobile, all received files are shown at the bottom of the screen.

On PC, files automatically save to the Downloads folder, but you can modify this setting by navigating to Settings > General > Default Save Location to choose a different folder.

Should your Wi-Fi connection drop or any unexpected issue occur during a file transfer, Blip remembers the transfer and will resume once the connection is restored.

The only potential drawback of Blip is that it requires installation on your devices. For occasional file sending, a built-in solution might be more convenient. However, for frequent file transfers, Blip proves to be an unparalleled choice.
