The PRO W890 motherboard is designed with eight DDR5 DIMM slots, and it offers two distinct configurations. The Mainstream option supports a 4-channel memory architecture with up to 80 PCIe Gen5 lanes, while the more powerful Expert variant boasts an 8-channel memory setup and supports up to 96 PCIe Gen5 lanes. The Expert configuration is particularly impressive, allowing for a maximum memory capacity of 2 TB and accommodating up to seven PCIe x16 slots, which can power either up to seven single-slot GPUs or four dual-slot blower AICs.
For high-speed storage solutions, the motherboard includes four dedicated Gen5 x4 M.2 slots, all equipped with specialized cooling heatsinks. The Intel W890 chipset itself is also actively cooled via a robust fan system. In terms of conventional storage options, users will benefit from four SATA III ports and two SlimSAS ports. Power efficiency and stability are prioritized with four 8-pin connectors, two 4-pin connectors, and a substantial 24-pin ATX connector. Additionally, user-friendly debugging features include a Power On/Off switch, reset button, and a DEBUG LED indicator.
The motherboard further excels with its versatile I/O capabilities, which encompass a minimum of six USB Type-A ports, two USB Type-C ports, and three LAN connections. Additional features include enhanced active cooling for the VRMs and a thoughtfully designed heatsink layout.
Pricing for the ASUS PRO W890 motherboard is expected to fall within the range of $1500 to $2000 USD, potentially varying depending on configurations. ASUS has indicated that the “future of workstations is almost here, ”and the board is prominently listed under their ExpertCenter Pro ET900N G3 AI Supercomputer, which showcases the NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GB300 Superchip.
